Can you still make a profit by advertising Search engines on PPC?

About a year ago I used to advertise search engines on PPC and make a profit but the PPC site that I was using went out of business and you guess I lost the profits. So I am wondering if this still works and which is a good PPC site to advertise with and also the Search engines with high profit%.
