Do you know the meaning of the sentence “good good study , day day up”

Almost every Chinese received education know this saying. It was a famous saying of Chairman Mao, which means study hard and make progress everyday. I don't know who translated this saying into such funny typical Chinglish. Maybe we can learn from it that we'd better learn its own language if we want to understand a different culture further.

Nope. :) Often famous sayings (also known as idioms) make absolutely no sense when they are directly translated. That is no fault of yours; your translation was probably perfect. It's just that sayings develop in certain regional areas that wouldn't make sense without the meaning that was assigned to it by a certain group, so it doesn't make sense elsewhere.

i'm sorry, no. sometimes, it is appropriate to translate a saying by what it means as a thought because the tendency if we do it word for word, it wouldn't make sense, incomprehensible and would just defeat the purpose of translating it. i had one difficulty translating a slogan in my earlier post minutes ago on People. i cannot translate it word for word because i wouldn't be understood.
