I came to know about this recently. I have never noticed this yet. I am not fond of watches and rearely buy them. Most of the time I get watches as gift.
Various reasons are heard about why all watches and clocks in ads show time 10:10.
1. Abraham Linchon is shot dead at 10:10
2. The logo of the watch won't be covered by the hands if the time shown is 10:10
3. If the time is 10:10 the hands of the watch stands as a smile symbol.
4. The hands show represent a tick mark if the time is 10:10
Have you ever head about this?

I have noticed this thing while watching Fastrack watches. But I don't know why the hands are like this.

It is nice to hear that you consider Fastrack watches. I am a big fan of Fastrack watches. There was twenty to forty percent discount for those watches in my city till yesterday. I went to a store and got a watch and a sunglass availing twenty percent discount. Thanks for responding to this discussion.I was surprised to see this on the top; I started it long ago.

Yes I did know that we did this study at school. The abraham thing just makes me lough (I have not heard about that one before) but the rest of the world would have no use of using that one as it is American thing right??? So why would a watch in China or Pakistan or France show that time ???? I know its not true but even for a mith it does not make sence.

Jewellery Stores will always set all clock and watch hands at ten to two for the simple reason that it is the most aesthetically attractive position of the hands. Apart from being the most attractive position, it is also a friendly greeting, as in upwardly extended arms.
Hands straight across would signal division, as would hands straight up and down. Downwardly extended arms would have a negative effect.
Setting hands at ten to two is simply another form of body language, giving the atmosphere of the shop the impression of orderliness, friendliness and confidence.

I know that new watches have the default time of 10:10 but please apologize me. Those what you have written are just myths. I have heard of a different reason why watches or clocks have the 10:10 time. Anyway, you can read it here: http://www.snopes.com/business/market/clockhands.asp

Hi daliaj,
Actually I have noticed the same earlier but didn’t get the answer why all clocks are showing the 10.10 time. The clocks which are hanging in the shop for sale is also have the same time. I think I have to do more researches on the same. I don’t have any idea about the answers you have given. If I find out the right answer I will inform you.

Hey guys, although I think the open legs idea is pretty funny, I actually had this discussion with my film professor last year. He said that the reason clocks are shown at 10:10 in commercials, film and on display is because it's pleasing to the eye. The way the hands are positioned splits the clockface into sections of two thrids and one third. The even fractions make our brain happy. Subconsciously.
