What are you feeling about Rio being the 2016 olympic city. Did you want that city to win? Did you really not care? Were you rooting for a different city to win? Well to me I was kind of rooting for either Rio or Chicago to win. I was suprised when I heard that Chicago came in dead last, even after Tokyo. How about you? What is your opinion on this?

I think it's wonderful that this first South American country will host. They need to bring in more and more countries to these games. The Olympics are some of the best things that happen between peoples of this world.

I thought Rio would get it. It certainly sounds more exotic than Chicago. I was surprised that Chicago was eliminated first (way to spend tax dollars on a trip that accomplished nothing), but not suprised that it lost overall. And I am kind of glad Chicago didn't get it. Whenever a big event happens in America, terrosits see it as their time to make another deadly statement. We're number one on the list of countries they'd most like to see burn.
As for Rio, I think of beaches and carnivals, but also slums. They have a lot of slums in that area. Maybe the press on the Olympics will also cast light on the problems that city has as well. If South America was going to get an Olympics, I'd say Rio was the best choice.

I was definitely hoping that Chicago would win. With it being so close to home, I thought I might actually get to go to see one of the Olympic events. I know it would be somewhat expensive, but I wouldn't have to get a hotel room. So all I would have to come up with is gas to get there and the money for the ticket for the event. And of course, I would most certainly have had to get a souvenir of some type. Even if it were just a brochure or booklet from the even it would be awesome.
Now, the odds of me going all the way to Rio de Jeniro to watch the Olympics are pretty slim. However, you never know what I'll be doing by that time. So I may be able to just hop a flight and make it. LOL Then again, a trip there any time would cost over a thousand dollars, so you would probably need to triple that to go to the Olympics. Maybe I'll just have to wait until 2020. LOL
Interesting discussion, I too was surprised that Chicago came in last. As a matter of fact, I knew they had lost, but didn't know they were last until I read this discussion.

Well since I am from Illinois I kind of wanted it to be in Chicago so that I could actually go to some of the events. But if it couldn't be here I am glad that Rio got it. They have tried a couple of times before and really wanted it badly. Also I am sure it is beautiful there, so I guess that I am happy with out things worked out, and wish Rio all the best.

Yes if it was in Chicago then it would be good for that state and the states around it. I forgot what the reason was though, but I know I would be happy because I live in one of those states that is close to chicago. Yes Rio looks very beautiful, that would have been my second choice. I wish I could scoop up enough money to go see atleast one olympic game.
