Yesterday my children and i nearly escaped being hit by a stupid lady carelessly backing out of the driveway across from ours.. i looked both ways. and a car had stopped to let us cross.. I didn't notice her in her car. She started to back out slowly, so i stopped.. then she stopped.. thinking she must have seen me i start to walk again but NOPE, she started backing out FAST, and i had the kids in the wagon behind me, i was pulling them and RUNNING to get out of the way.. Did she think she was queen of the world and that fellow had stopped driving with the right away to let her butt out of a parking lot ? When she finally realized she had almsot run someone over (it took me screaming HEY YOU STUPID F' C WORD) (geez i hope my kids never have to hear me say that again, but i was SUPER mad she'd almost killed us, it kinda slipped) she was very apologetic.. said sorry like 5 times.. so i said nicely, PLEASEE PLEASE PLEASE for the same of mine and other people's children can you remember to look before you back up next time ?? and she said oh yes dear i will. i'm so sorry. As i start to walk away she says NOW I'LL GO HOME AND SHOOT MYSELF.. SOOOOOO uncalled for.. i mean i did call her a C-word.. but hell she almost ran me over.. so i told her lady, i dont want you to shoot yourself, i just want you to be more carefull. and she screamed at me I SAID SORRY WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT FROM ME ? and i said YES and i asked you nicely to look before you back up, you dont have to get nasty.. and she sped off.. i WISH i'd gotten her plates.. meanwhile the guy is still waiting for me and the C-word to get out of the way so he can continue his journey.. as i passed him he said that was really close.. and i said yes i know.. i wish i'd asked him to get the plates.. at his point i couldnt see anything but red!! This was mostly just a rant.. but to make it a decent discussion, Have you ever seen your life or your childrens life flash before your eyes ?? Had i hesitated one second or not ran full tilt that c word would have hit my children.. I can't let it go.. the what if's are flowing through my mind everytime i think about it. i'm hoping writting it down will make it stop!! I have wrote in other discussions that i dont leave the house much.. yet everytime i do something messed up happens.. I think i know now why my grandmother never leaves her house. INSIDE IS SAFE, AND IGNORANCE IS BLISS!!

I am sure that was very scary and I can only hope that that close call has made the woman think, but it does sound like she feels guilty but was mad at you. I don't think your reaction was anything but pure instinct and that you did the right thing by being angry and letting her know it! It was your's and your children's life at stake there, and any car should look before they back up. In my state it is required that you look behind your vehicle before you back out, and to back with your left hand steering and your right hand on the passenger side so that you can look over your shoulder and BACK SLOWLY... so as to be cautious of children, adults and animals.

well cowgirl, the really messed up thing about it that i forgot to mention in my rant was that she was backing up INTO the wrong side of the street.. like backing out to her left but on the left side of the street to avoid that man whom stopped to let me cross.. GR! no common sense.

yes.. thank you for putting that into perspective. that indeed is the important thing.. but i cant get the what if's out of my mind still!! I am pretty sure if she'd hurt my children i would have pulled her from the car and beat the living crap out of her till someone tore me away from her.

Okay that just sounds stupid... It sounds to me that the man would have had plenty of time to pass the woman who was backing out, it makes me think she knew ya'll were there. The important thing is everyone is safe!

Hi sissygrl, I don't like confrontations at all but would have joined you in that one, ignorance is ignorance and they need to be called on it. The times I turn into a manic swearer are when I'm behind the wheel of a car and it's justified. And don't take on the slightest bit of guilt by her wanting to shoot herself, maybe she'll only manage the foot she relies on for reversing. But don't stop leaving your house.

haha thea i dont like confrontation either. but sometimes.. you just got to have your say!! Afterwards i was thinking what i SHOULD have said.. was well at least if you shot yourself the streets would have been a little safer.. but that's kinda mean i guess.. but i would have said it had i thought about it after she was so rude.

Wow, I am so glad that you are ok. I can't say that I have been through anything like that. It is so nice to hear something with a good ending to it. I like to stay home alot too. I just feel more content here.

I don't seem to ever have any mishaps. But last winter I was on my way to the airport to pick up my son-his plane had to turn around because of all the ice. So I had to go home and the roads were so icy I was crawling along at 5 MPH and watching all the other people sliding off the road. That made me very nervous and I was so glad to get home!

Yes, we have all sorts of bad drivers. Health, old age and system corruption breed bad drivers. Those who are not healthy should stop driving. Similarly those who are old and can longer see not hear should desist from driving a car. Those bad drivers who speed should be fined and their licenses taken away from them. If we can have proper enforcement, the streets will be safer!

I agree with you.. drivers should be retested every few years. say like when they renew their license.. make sure they are driving safely. and maybe after you hit senior status, you should be tested more often... this lady wasn't a senior, but she wasn't a spring chicken... she should have known better.

Well inside can be just as dangerous as the outside expecially with childeren. For example:Its very easy to choke on food. fall asleep in a bathtub and drown. kids often walk with things in thier mouth like straws or pencils a trip could end it all quickly. a toy on the floor could lead to a trip and fall as well. By the way why did you call her a bad word if your the one that didnt notice her. who is to say she didnt notice you as you did not her. you should never assume things of people yeah you both stoped but you both had the mind set to keep moving reguarless of consequence. you told her that she shouldnt be nasty yet you were the first to throw stonen in that respect in front of your kids no less. sounds to me like you both could use anger management classes and rules of the road course as well.

ucantseeme, Yes i was vulgar first, but i was trying to get her attention and i just panicked.. After i realized that no one was hurt i wasn't nasty to her.. i dont know if she even heard me.. I said i didn't notice her because he car was still, she had to BACK OUT of the driveway, she didn't have any break lights on. all the cars there looked like they where parked.. and this gentleman was stopping to let me cross. I DID LOOK before i walked.. There was no way for me to see/know she was in the car and about to back up fast without loooking.. The difference between her and I is, I yelled and was vulgar because i thought my children where about to be hurt by her. She yelled because she knew she was wrong and didn't want it to be her fault.. I wasn't even nasty back to her when she said she was going to shoot herself. As far as inside being just as unsafe.. i agree it can be unsafe.. but i generally do not leave those things laying around for my kids. I am a better safe then sorry kind of person. If they are eating, they need to sit at the table.. we dont run with food. and pensils and stuff.. no we dont leave those laying around either.. I look after other peoples children as well as my own. and i can't watch all of them all of the time, so we have nothing laying around (as much as possible) that could hurt or cause accidents.. All the plug covers are in the sockets, If we colour, paint, or use any type of crafts, they are at the table. and i push the chairs in when they are done so no one can climb up on them and fall. if they leave the table they have to leave the crafty objects. my point, its much safer in my home where i'm responsible for them if they get hurt... OUTSIDE is full of idiots whom dont give a crap about anything else or are too wrapped up in what they are doing to pay attention to their surroundings.. I dont plan on becoming a hermit or anything.. but damn.. i feel like it this week!!

we had an inhouse doctor's office around the corner from me-long story short, the doc's son almost plowed into me one day hauling *ss out the driveway backwards. i had to pound on the car to get him to look. i told him point blank "next time,i'm gonna own that porsche".

hi sissygrl my that was a really close call, and i would'have done just about what you did. careless drivers are a real pain in the rear end.She showed that she still did not quite get what you were telling her, to look both ways all the time or you may end up in jail for killing someone, she needs to have that message repeated a few times I guess. I was in the Larwin Square mall one day walking across from one store to another, when this idiot woman was driving with one elbow while chatting on her damned cell phone.I looked up and jumped aside just in time as she drove straight at me. that did take some doing as I have a brace on one leg. he he he
