Hi mylotters.
I'm pretty new to this site but liked the atmosphere realy much. I just wonder your computer trends. How often do you change your techy friend :)
This is my third laptop in 6 years and it feels like saying "prepare yourself for a new one". What dou you think?

My husband bought my Sony Vaio laptop in 2006. It runs on XP and I had no problems whatsoever with it, no virus, no crashes or similar stuff. It has nearly everything including a built-in camera and is compatible with a lot of programs I am using. I don't think I will change this computer in the next 3 years. We get along quite well.

I know you're joking. I use it everyday. My husband is already complaining that I spend more time with the computer than with him. He also says that buying me this laptop was a bad idea.

What is the secret for this success? Have you ever used that Sony Viao? (Just joking).
Congrats for such a carefully usage. Wish I could have a full clean month without a virus warning.

I bought my Toshiba laptop about a year and a half ago, and I don't really have any plans on buying another anytime soon. A lot of how often you have to replace your computer depends on what brand you choose. Generally, Apple, Sony, and Toshiba have the longest-lasting computers, so I definitely recommend them.

You're absolutely right. Stick to the brand, do not get confused with more bytes and bits. What I suffer most is the speed though. My laptop either getting slower or I'm slowing it down. May be the disk is fading out. Always working even if I'm not using the computer. Hate vista!!!

I bought my computer just three months ago for there was something wrong with my former one. Nowadays the electronic products including computers update very quickly. The latest computer you buy at present will soon be out of date. Personally speaking, I would never buy those latest products which is impractical. They may have many potential problems for they're not fully tested by consumers. By contrast, those mainstream products appeal to me more.

If it is just web browsing or emails, even a 5-year old laptop or a netbook will be more than enough. For more heavy work, a dual core is preferred.
I usually don't update my laptop, because I really don't usually stress it out that much. I however, will update my desktop (5 times in 10 years) because I want the full power. It is time to buy a new one, and I am seriously considering an Athlon II X4 620 desktop.

Mine is a xp and have had it for about 6 years and still going. It may be out of date but I don't care still works fine. As long as you don't download stuff from the internet it should be fine. The software will go out of date though even though xp still is getting software updates.
