How do you walk? Very fast, fast or slow?

I was walking very fast before. I had to do all the work at home, cook, send children to school, pack lunch boxes for all of us, keep things ready for in-laws and then rush to office. My husband was on transfer. Hence, naturally my steps fell fast. But now I am moderately fat, took retirement, in-laws no more and coupled with age my steps slowed down. Now I walk slowly. How about you? Do you walk fast or slow? Are you happy about it? Did you experience any problem due to that speed?

I was walking fast before. Now due to body weight and health problems, I am unable to walk fast. If I try to walk fast, I will get gasping, and chest pain and knee pain. So though I do not like to walk slow, I am forced to do so.

Yes Vathsala30, we all have the same problem. I too get chest heaviness and knee pain. My husband easily says reduce weight. But where, it is not going, may be found a best place in my body, the fat cholesterol I mean.

Yes. Necessity makes the speed for you. If you can then, why not?

I have a hard time staying on my feet for too long, so I tend to walk extremely slowly. I also have a cane that I use for balance.

Hi Buchi, sounds that you were quite busy at home eh... Oh I see! Your husband worked in big city or town. You were the only person to take care of the whole family, for the sake of saving time, no wonder you need faster pace to get all the necessary routine readied on time. You are really caring as well to keep things readied for your in-laws too I wonder whether those tight schedule of routines did make you to feel the press of daily then. Anyway, lots of things have changed the moment and you don't need to rush for anything in a fast space. I'm glad that you could enjoy doing thing slowly and relaxingly now. If just talking about the act of go on foot, of course I say yes. I'm not rushing for time I'm just a fast pedestrian. My friends always ask me to walk slower while hanging around somewhere. My pace would be much faster if I'm hurry to get something to to be readied or I'm rushing to a shelter before heavy rain pouring Happy posting!

Hi dear, I had made a typo in the 2nd paragraph, the 2nd line. It should be fast “pace” instead of fast “space”

I walk really fast.. I don't know when it really started, but I'm just that way, and when I walk, I usually just look straight ahead, so even if I bump into one of my friends, I won't recognize them unless they call me, or they stop in front of my face. lol. Sometimes, I like walking fast, like when I'm late for something, though at times, it's hard specially when there's a lot of people, and I get really impatient when the person in front of me walks really really slow...

Yes. Fast walkers find it difficult to walk in a crowd as they will not find way easily.

hi Buchi, I agree with you if you need to catch something important all of us walk in the same manner inorder to reach. And especially if it is for office you cannt stop walking fast as you may be afraid of reaching late. I do not know whether the people in the office in which you worked use to note about your arrival and depature time and pay salary depending on it, but my office people do these things. So reaching office at exactly specified time is important for us which automatically made me walk fast incase of office. But in rest of the case i walk medium speed that is neither fast nor too slow. Another thing is brisk walking is ideal for people with obesity and other problems which come by age. So walk fast is not at all injurious and if cannt walk as fast as before dont worry walk up to your capacity only. I do try to walk fast but after some time it slows down.

I was walking fast when I was young. But now in this senior citizen state, coupled with obesity, diabetes and BP, I cannot walk fast. As you said, I have to walk up to my capacity.

I think it all depends on the situation. In the morning when I leave the house I usually walk very fast so as not to be late. But when i come back home in the evening I usually walk a little slower. If I am tired I walk slower as well. It all depends on the situation really.

People say that I walk fast. I think this is because I'm always in a hurry to get to work. Almost every morning I get caught in a traffic jam, so when I finally arrive at work I rush to the office to get there in time. I'm so used to this speed that I find it tiresome when I walk slowly.

My problem is the same as yours. I used to walk very fast but as i have put on weight and other physical problems cannot walk fast as i usd to do before. When i try to do so end up with leg and feet ache. I am not very happy about it. But am helpless. I think a regular exercise of walking can be of help to make the walk more steadier.

Me?Almost the same way as you do, especially now that my husband's right leg was amputated a month ago,September 4,2009 to be exact. The only difference between you and me now,is that, I am not a retiree yet.Not yet but I'm going to that Twelve years from now. And,I can foresee I will just be like you, because if you walk fast today, tomorrow surely walking will be slower and slower because it the pace comes with the age, especially at age 65.

I am sorry for the amputation of your husband's right leg. What happened? My husband had accident and left leg knee joint broken. So the leg from thigh to foot is like a rod. But he was bed ridden for 4 1/2 years with two surgeries and many health complications. By God's grace now he is on his own but only inside the house. That is why he says, walk and get down the stairs slowly. One fall at home is more than enough.

I tend to walk on the fast side, at least when I am running errands. My oldest son has no problems keeping up with me. However, my youngest son can't walk that fast, so I try to keep it at a slower pace for him. I don't really experience any problems with walking fast or slow. Other than feeling a little worn out, especially if it was a big day, afterwards. Happy mylotting!

When you have time, make the walk little slow and watch the surroundings for any lovely flower, beautiful child, good scenes etc. and enjoy them too.

I walk very fast because I'm pretty tall so I guess thats the reason why I tend to run instead of walking, even when I'm just having a walk around in town for some shopping. It always look as If I'm on a hurry and my parents or sister are constantly asking me to slow down. The fact is I don't really notice I'm walking fast :|

I walk fast when I went to walk. It's said that the speed of walk can judge a person's character, if the person walk fast, the person will do many things fast and high efficiency, on the contrary, the person will do many things slow and don't have the outstanding efficiency. When I went shopping,I will put my steps slow, because many beautiful things attract my sight.

Well, shopping needs slow walking as you have to see many things and then decide where to buy and what to buy.

Wow, thank you for asking this, i'm reflecting very deeply right now. I always seem to walk a little faster then people around me, it makes me feel like i'm in control, in shape and makes me feel like a man with a plan. It makes me feel very happy, when i am slow it makes me feel weak, fat and for some reason a little lonely.

Oh God! So many thoughts about slow walking is it? I never knew. But you are correct. At least for avoiding these reasons, I have to walk fast.
