Do you ping once a day more than once a day or only weekly? Hoping a fellow mylotter thats is a blogger also can help me with some of this info. Thanks :)

Certain sites like technorati for one allow you to ping your blog you write new content and then let that site know. They will look for new content and promote it on their site, at least that is my understanding of how it works. There may be other sites that do that as well. I think signing up for a service like techorati is good to be able to give fresh content to people.

Purpose of binging a blog is to tell search engines that you have updated the blog, so that the robots can crawl and index your blogs.
The best is to use free pinging services to ping the blog every time you update the blog. You can use pinggoat.com, autopinger.com, pingmyblog.com and pingomatic.com
Your blog posts can get indexed faster, with possibility of reaching the first page in search engine results.
