The whole reason i'm doing a ton of extra work online is to help fund a new laptop. My other one has fried. Twice. So i've kind of decided that, instead of paying to have it repaired, again, i'd just buy a new one. I want an apple Macbook, because a couple of my friends have them and say they're amazing. does anyone have an oppinion???

Hi there! I'm in the same boat as you. I have a sony right now and although it hasn't crashed on me it's time for a new one as I've had this one for about 6 years now. It's starting to run very slow and freeze up.
I've decided to get a macbook pro. A few of my friends have them and they all agree that they are great. I've even been using their macs for the past couple of months to get a feel for it before mine comes in. I'm buying it next week when my financial aid from the university comes in.
Macs don't catch pc viruses so most mac users don't even put antivirus protection on their computers. A mac takes some getting used to for the first week or so depending on how computer savy you are. I figured it out in about four days and I'm not that great with computers.
You can install microsoft office if you like but the iWork is pretty much the same and you can get it at a fraction of the cost if you buy with your mac.
Although more and more software is compatible with macs, you should also note that not all software works with the mac.
If you have software that you need that isn't compatible then you can actually run a windows operating system on the mac such as windows vista, xp, etc.
I think a macbook would be a great choice and it does so much. You have to pay quite a bit of money for it but it's well worth it.

thank you so much for your response! you just made me feel so much better about my choice in computer!
I've worried alot about wheither or not a mac was a good idea, but at the same time i thought it was, just from consumer reviews, and my friend's recomendations.
I never even thought about viruses. That's just a major plus that they don't get PC viruses! especially since that's what crashed my other computer in the first place!!!
I've looked up prices in a bunch of different places, and i agree, it's a bit pricey, but if it will work better than my other one, (and maybe not fry the hard drive so much), I'm willing to spring the extra cash for it!
:)
