Last Christmas season, my aunt gives me a cash rather than a gift. She choose to give me cash for me to buy what I like. She prefer to give cash for a reason that she doesn't what I want to receive for a gift.

cash is the best way to go especially these days with how the economy is going. i have to do cash mostly because most my family lives away in other states and its better then buying the things then paying to have them sent.

Hi irefed,
For me, It is always depend on the situation on whether to give a person a present or simply just go for cash.
For birthday party, I might simply just give a cash (in redpacket) especially for elderly people. I really have no idea what to buy for them as a present. I guess cash is the best gift for them.
But for kids's birthday party, I might consider get them a present like toys, stationeries, storybooks.Try to buy them something that might be useful in their life.
For certain occasions like Christmas, valentine Day - I might go for a present.
I used to buy present for my husband during Christmas and Valentine Day ,that was before we got married. After we got married, I never give him any present. Once a while, when I am travelling abroad, I will still buy him something as a present.
I just believe that I can simply get a present for my husband anytime I want without looking at the occasion.

Hi, irefed
I usually give gifts in kind. But when it comes to my godsons, I just give cash because I really have difficulty looking for gifts for them. I am one of those that are very picky when choosing a gift and the ones I like are usually expensive. Plus, I am not very up to date with new toys. So I just give them money and tell them to buy anything they like.
Hey, it's almost christmas. Time for gift giving again.
Cheers!

really? Good for you that you give both. Well, what's important is the essence and the sincerity of giving the gift.

Sorry but I prefer cash. Firstly, I am not a person who likes to think of buying a present. Secondly, I don't like to receive a gift that I don't like, or just useless. So why don't just give cash? Well, if I really know that person, and I know what he/she wants, or likes, or needs, then maybe send gifts is a good idea. Happy myLotting=]
