It has been a real tough time for one of the world's best teams -ARGENTINA- in the qualifying rounds for the upcoming world cup. But the hopes are not still out. I'm cent percent sure they're gonna do it in the coming 2 matches in the qualifying round. Even if not, they'll definitely come back in the play off. Perhaps, it's not a very pleasant thing for a classy team like this to be depending on the play off matches to make it to the tournament, i think, it's just a part of the game. Bad times come, for anyone, anytime. You have to fight hard to overcome those. I'm sure Argentina will blast the goal posts with a typhoon of goals!!

Hi beondeblaise,
I am not so sure about that. Even though I love to see them in the South Africa next years as a participant team, I think it is hard for them right now. They need to win their next two games to at least qualify for playoff.
Argentina with have Peru and Uruguay as their remain opponents in the South America qualification round. They will face Peru at home (October 10th) and away at Uruguay (October 14th).
They might have no problem to defeat Peru as Peru have nothing to play for. But against Uruguay, they need the best performance if Uruguay still have any chance to qualify. Uruguay have to face Ecuador on October 10th away.
If Uruguay loss to Ecuador and Argentina win against Peru, Argentina can at least qualify for playoff games.
Colombia still have a mathematical chance to qualify but they need to beat Chile (home) and Paraguay (away).
Assume there is no upset in Central America qualification, US and Mexico will be qualify for South Africa directly. The 3rd is either Honduras or Costa Rica. If Argentina qualify for playoff, then I don't think they will have much problem to beat both teams.

That's a good information. I think Ecuador is at the 4th position and Argentina at the 5th position. I think if Ecuador lose any one of their upcoming games and Argentina win both of them, then Argentina will grab a direct pass to the tournament. I just made a small mistake while typing the discussion topic there, that even if argentina lose both of them, they'll be in the play off. Actually they'll miss even the play off if they lose both games. I can't wait any longer to see those matches and my prayers are with them.

It is very tight competition for the 4th and 5th place in South America qualifying round. There are still 6 teams looking for 2 direct access and one playoff. Chile, with 27 point, with follow Brazil and Paraguay, baring any upset in their remain games. So there will be one slot for direct access and a playoff.
Ecuador (with 23 points) is 4th place now and Argentina (with 22 points) is 5th. Uruguay and Venezuela, both are 21 point while Colombia with 20 points.
Venezuela can be cut from this list because they have to face Brazil and Paraguay in their remain games. Colombia too need a miracle to qualify.
So, it is left Ecuador, Argentina and Uruguay to fight for it. Uruguay is in the best position because they will face both of its challenger.

I kinda think that this Argentina side is similar to the Brazil side of 2002. They struggled to qualify but once they were there their form peaked and they won the whole thing. I think there's a decent chance that this will happen with Argentina.

It´s really tough, dont really know if they would make it or not. Everything can happen this last two matches on southamerica. I hope Ecuador classified but it would be a shame if Argentina or Uruguay dont classified as i think both are great teams with great players such as Messi in argentina and as forlan in uruguay.

It would be a dull world cup if the best player in the world was to miss it - I can't bear thinking the World Cup without Leonel Messi - it would be drastic experience. I still believe they will make it.
Same applies with Portugal, it would be really dull with out Ronaldo too.
So, for the game we would prefer Portugal and Argentina to be qualified among the other top teams. I would like to think it this way, it would be not fair if Park Ji Sung is at South Africa and the two world best players are absent Ronaldo and Messi. Wouldn't be worth watching.
Anyway, glad to see England through and well done the three lions lets make it 10/10 tommorrow.

Exactly, it would be boring and dumbest of football world cups we've seen if good teams like argentina are gonna miss out. But something within me says they'll be in. The world cup will be active with them coming in. I can't even imagine messi missing out.
