Nowadays there are more and more beggars. But what quite confused me is that some of them are strong men, they can totally live on their own work, maybe some of them have some difficulties, but surely not all.what's your opinions about them?I just keep silence on it,because I think though they are healthy, they just don't wanna to work, begging is their choice, begging is a kind of work maybe, everyone can choose it if they like. I disputed with one of my classmates over it once.We were passing by a street,we saw a young mother with her baby were begging for 8 yuan to buy sth to eat and to take her bus,but we have no money at that time, but my classmate said so much to criticise her,she said she were cheating, and so much!I nearly couldn't stop her,so I had to make my voice louder and louder to stop her!Of course it made her angry. Do you think I am wrong?what's your opinions?

I think they need support and understanding. ALthough there are some that just rely on begging even if they have the strength and built to get a better job. But me, I give beggars rather than money, food or drinks, to pacify their hunger or thirst. Its better if you do it that way. And safer because police will arrest you if you give money to beggars. Try to talk to them and help them out in any way even as little as talking or giving some bread. At least in little ways we can be able to help one another and do a good deed as well. =)

hi,sophia,if I am you,I also do it like this.you are right ,you are very kind-hearted.as you say,to be a beggar is their choice,we should respect their choice,in today's society, begging is also at work.Have you ever seen a beggar drive a car to go to work? this is funny, but it does exist.maybe some beggars are richer than a lot of citizens.

The thing about beggars is that those are people who cannot help the situation they are in. No one wants to be a beggar and no one volunteers for that kind of life. Sometimes they do cheat but if you lived in that kind of situation you probably would cheat too. Its a hapless situation to be in.

Most of them are helpless, and need our help. But as a student I don't have extra money to help all of the beggars I meet,so I usually give money to handicapped poople and old men,not healthy one.

hello sophia, good discussion. Firstly in my city, beggars become less and less, but they still exist. I think there are some people who are good in health, but they still work as a beggar, some of them, as a matter of fact, are richer than most of us. There's a famous beggar in our city, he has a family as big as six person, he and his wife work as beggar, and now has a three-floor building of his own. Local people will not give him money and he does not beg things from local people. he only beg to people who travel here. But I don't think we should scold them for doing this, since every person has their way of life, and they choose to be a beggar to live through their life. We shouldn't blame on people for their choice.

some beggars who seem to look fit and healthy really annoy me but i feel that i have to help because there are persons who tug at my heart because i see that they are really in need. these people are not holding college degrees and may ave tried applying for a job but because of their lack of qualifications, they opted to beg just to support themselves and their families. the beggars that i really give something to are old men and women who look so forlorn and hungry that it makes me want to cry. we should give if we have something and if it's not against our will. we should give freely without doubts and regrets.

Give them freely without doubts!Right! There are alot of things that we were unable to indentify their authenticity,so,if we choose to give, just do it,and give without doubts and regret.

Some time we must believe and some times not. But in this big world its very hard to find truth with our eyes. Thats what exactly happening at present world. We must be very careful that the opp. person (beggar) is true and really orphan and needy. It may be bit difficult but we must help as we can to them by finalizing there real status.

I think there are lots of reasons why people end up on the streets like that. I don't think that young, fit people actually want to be there. Sometimes, if you can't find work, or things happen in life and you don't have anyone to fall back on for support, things can go badly. Not everyone has someone to go to for help, and the government seems to be there for you after it's too late. It's sometimes just a matter of luck, friends/family, and circumstance that keeps you going long enough to get the help. Plus, if one of the young fit men that you see begging walked in to a bank asking for a job, they probably wouldn't be given one. Not without a shower, and clean clothes, a resume, etc. Also, once you get a job, it would take a few pay checks before you could afford a place to live and all the necessities. They couldn't exactly sleep outside the bank after their shift, and then walk back in in the morning to work the next day. Sometimes, you need money to make money.

You have a warm heart,I do think some of them have some troubles, however I didn't think so much in detail.Maybe some times we should learn to think on another side.

Beggers state is really too bad... and i feel totally sorry for them. It is true that many beggers cheet and some even rob, but the fact is that they are totally poor without anything. Its easy for us to sit here and comment, but in reality their lives are pathetic. Though we give them money or not, they are still going to remain the same. So i always give them money, no matter what they are.

Hi Sophia In my opinion whatever you have done is right so you need not worry, because if you don't give them money atleast we should not criticize them. Begging is not wrong only when the person is diabled and when they are helpless and there is no other way to earn money, but I don't encourage begging if they are young and are capable of doing work. I never give money to the beggers because some people choose begging as their profession which is very easy to earn money.

I don't think you are wrong. Your friend's opinion is just like mine. I can't stand beggars, even if I have money, I don't give then a dime. But I don't talk to then or criticize then either. In my opinion, being a beggar is a choice, saying that the government or the society doesn't give then opportunities is just an excuse to do nothing. You were right to tell your friend to not judge that beggar because it not right. Well, this is just my opinion.

Beggars are mirrors of the economy for each country. The more beggar the street has, the worst the economy and vice versa. If we tolerate beggars on the street (meaning giving them alms or anything), we are only helping them to continue to be poor. You know that begging is a crime in most country.

The phenomena is very common, espeacially in the cities.Several days ago,I went to the Supermarket to buy somenthing. On the way I saw a seventeen year old boy beggings foy eight jiao for a baizi .I was just staring the boy who is so strong that he can afford his wowning living. He begged the pedestryians money by inspiring the sympathy of the kind persons. In my opinion,I quite agree with you that you can do that, thoug it may make little use,but it works.Everybody shouldn't give momey to the beggars. The society will become better.Of course, the best thing to solve the problem is that the government takes measures for that.

Human society since time immemorial has always been plagued by the presence of beggars. Mostly were born poor and have no means to find a job. People who can neither read or write or are phycically challenged. They became what they are not by choice and it is difficult to categorize. The government, through social welfare agencies have programs to address this particular issue but in many places,it's obvious that it's lacking. We should always be discerning and compassionate and help those who are genuinely needy. cheers!

I think you both are right. Some people do this as a way of life and they are quite skilled at conning people into feeling sorry for them. Others I think may be really in a spot where they are desperate and do need help. Times are tough and jobs are hard to come by. Many people are seriously hurting. If I see someone begging, I do try to help if I'm able. I usually don't give money. If I saw a woman wanting to feed her child, I would maybe buy her some food or whatever. I try not to pass judgement on any of them. It is very hard to tell the difference between those that are scamming people and those that are truly in need.

whenever i come across a person who doesnt have legs and or deformed hands or wif only 1 hand, some crawl on their stomachs begging for subsistence,i wud usually fish for a big note n give it to them, despite knowing that begging on the streets is illegal,on the other hand, healthy lookin people, woman esp, with a filthy baby in tow beggin for alms, come on!so obvious, fishin for sympathy wif the baby, wudnt give a 2nd glance!Former i sympathize, latter i resent if they go all around the streets daily beggin fulltime!exploitation of the poor child,D adult shud be arrested for that! I ll probably bring it to the attention of the relevant welfare authorities! Then again, sometimes, there are extenuating circumstances,The young mother in question, did you ask about their situation,Maybe she's from some remote village jus come to city, cant find work but hafto feed the child,or kicked out by husband or family etc, dont think its fair to jump to conclusions n judge so fast. and even if she was really cheating bout the bus fare n food, ultimately, choice to give or not rest on u.dont think is up to us to be self appointed righteous police patrol.Nor are we saints! There r depts in Gov for this sort of thing. And even the full time healthy looking beggars,if they dont harassed you or anything,is it our place our right to pass judgement on how they choose to live,we do have d right to ignore them n move on.Face it,all of us humans arent all perfect.Reminds me of d movie 'fisher king'wif Robin williams, homeless street people who turned out to be one genius n another a famous millionaire, who suffered a nervous breakdown n had amnesia, just a movie, but there s a message in there somewhere.

I don't choose which beggars I must give help or money because there are some beggars who beg because they are too lazy looking for work.If we give them money, we teach them not to work at all because in their mind there is an easy job to get money which is to beg to people. If we try to look at other beggars, they are healthy as I am but they are just want to get something without hard work.

we cannot blame them because of the lack of employment they are force to beg in order to survive.
