In an attempt to gain favor with China, the United States pressured Tibetan representatives to postpone a meeting between the Dalai Lama and President Obama until after Obama's summit with his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, scheduled for next month, according to diplomats, government officials and other sources familiar with the talks.
The U.S. decision to postpone the meeting appears to be part of a strategy to improve ties with China that also includes soft-pedaling criticism of China's human rights and financial policies as well as backing efforts to elevate China's position in international institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund. Obama administration officials have termed the new policy "strategic reassurance," which entails the U.S. government taking steps to convince China that it is not out to contain the emerging Asian power.

I do now know what you guys think of this decision "to curry favor with China" or if it is because we are so deeply in debt to China....China has loaned immense sums to the US – about two-thirds of China’s $1.95 trillion in foreign reserves is believed to be in United States securities – but it has begun to voice concerns about the health of US treasuries.http://opinion.globaltimes.cn/Observer/2009-05/429718.html
Maybe Obama is thinking more about that that anything else. What do you think???

This is only more proof that Obama doesn't give a rat's rear end about freedom and democracy. He's once again cozying up to another leader of one of the world's most despotic countries, trying to convince people that no, China isn't out to try to dominate everything and everybody. Sorry Barry, but that isn't going to fly.

I think Obama put it off until the Dalai Lama promises to pray to him. {/sarcams}

You might be more than a little correct in this assessment.

I am confused. Just exactly where is Obama's promised change in the decision to place human rights behind the demands of economics dictated by the big money interests that are termed 'too big to fail'?

Here's another good article on this topic: http://seattletimes/nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2010029956_apaschinatibet.html
Taiwan might as well kiss its butt goodbye. China is very patient and will squeeze out every last drop of advantage the 0bama presidency oozes. We can't really place all the blame on 0bama. How many of our elected officials in DC sold us down the river? How many PC cowards stuck a knife in our backs?

You mean he's putting a political debt ahead of civil rights? He's not for the little guy after all? He's 'currying favor' instead of 'fighting for truth'? He's nothing but a nasty politician after all?
WOW...I'm shocked!
