I am a smoker & have been a smoker for 50 years at least. I know how bad it is for me, my doctors have told me to stop, yada, yada. Last night i was about out of cigarettes & decided when i smoked my last one this morn i would not buy anymore. They are sooooo expensive. Got up this morn, fixed my coffee, smoked my last cig. That lasted just long enough to get me a shower, make my self presentable to face people at the tobacco barn. Yep my willpower lasted about 30 minutes. . What willpower, right??Now don't y'all write about how bad it is for me , i already know that. How many others don't have anymore willpower than i do?

You are a living proof that smoking is not really bad afterall. Since you have been puffing away for 50 years and still going strong, what do you conclude on the warning send out by the anti-smoking campaign that smoking is a passport to an early grave. Smoking is the hardest habit to kick and it needs a strong will power to fight the addiction of smoking. I am no smoker but a diehard fan of jackpot machines which I am trying hard to stop. I have weak will power to stop myself from stepping into a casino. But mylot has reduced my regular visit to my haunting place.

I am in the smoking boat with you....got all my excuses lined up too and smart a$$ remarks....like when someone points it out to me that it is bothering them and they want be further away from them I do let them know how much their property taxes etc would go up if we all quit....so there is a pay off for everything.....but do I have will power? Nope...maybe tomorrow?

Hi ya ANTIQUELADY
At least you gave it a go huh? hahaha I have very little will power myself. I need to lose weight but I get as far as lunch and it all goes out the window. Sometimes I make it til the evening meal but then the kids go to bed and I am on my own with a fridge full of food - oh dear!

My problem isn't really the same as yours, but it does have to do with willpower.
Everytime I say I'm going to do something, like finish my homework or study for a test, I pretty much never do it, and if I think about getting up early it always ends with me going back to sleep. This is a big problem, since I offten end up failing at whatever test I was supposed to do or leaving in my homework assignement late. Sometimes it even happens that I'm late for school because of this.
Hope you can quit smoking one day!

oh my, SOUNDS LIKE U DO HAVE A PROBLEM TO. mAYBE U ARE NOT GETTING ENOUGH REST. I have always been very strong willed & believe in always taking care of buisness but when it comes to quitting smoking all that willpower of mine goes down the drain. Try going to bed earlier. I hope u get over this problem. Thanks for responding & good luck.

You're doing one thing right for sure don't quit till you know it's what you want to do. If I can quit anyone can quit. Seriously. I quit three times once for a few months it was a bit hard but not too bad. Then the second time I quit it was real hard I cheated till I had to admit I was just cheating myself. I quit then for a year and a half. Now the last time I quit will be the last time without a doubt. I quit in 1996. It nearly killed me to quit. Each time you quit is harder. My advice is Don't quit Until you Know without a doubt this is what you really want. Anyone can quit but Not Till You Are Ready!!! Good Luck my friend.

Thanks for the advice. I had a brain aneurysm in 2000 & they told me i had to quit. I did for 9 months & one day just got u & went & bought me a pack of cigs. U can't get much dumber than that. Thanks for your response. I'm proud of u for quitting.

Please notice....I have both hands up! I think that I have used all my willpower up, on all my other bad habits! I have tried, and tried....and tried, and I think the stresses that piles up, when I am trying is more likely to do as much damage, as smoking! I know the key is to keep busy...but I CAN'T get much busier, and with giving up/attempting I would have to give up my coffee, too! And all the other things with hidden caffeine in them! Proud of you, for fessing up...but DON'T beat yourself up...you are NOT alone! HUGZ & LUV!

My goodness, you are the early bird, again this morning! Furthermore, I know that I won't be able to give it up...before my trek to TN, so truly do HOPE, you do have an outhouse, a place to SMOKE in leisure! LOL! My goodness...I know if it wasn't cigs I had in my mouth, it more than likely would be food...choices, uhm, another addiction that I would have to break! If it gets any worse here, with the "Puffer Police", I think we will have to move to Greece, as thea says we'd fit right in there! HUGZ & LUV!

U go around like the button on the outhouse door now, i don't think u could be any busier than u are. Wish u would slack off of some of that business. Well, we certainly can't give up our coffeee & i know i am never going to give up the cigs so will just quit worrying about all my bad habits, too old to change them noe, lol. really the price of them is what got me to thinking anyway. I'm glad i'm not alone.love ya!

I don't smoke and never have, but I do really love chocolate and I have no will power when it comes to it. I also have no willpower to diet. The longest I have everlasted on a diet was three weeks. Then I blew it and ate a huge chocolate chip cookie and then it was over for me and the diet was done. I understand how difficult it is to stop doing something you love, maybe you could just cut back.

My GM used to say "Each to his own, said the old woman as she kissed the cow'. I think she meant that we make our own choice. I would not dream of lecuring you at all. If I had will power then I would be slim and fit!

I am starting my discussion here because the first part of my discussion is a silent reprimand ,you know I want you to be around long enough so I cant not reprimand you .Anyway with that said ,I would now like to say that all of us have something habit that we have trouble breaking ,for you its ciagarettes ,for others its chocolates, for other fast food ,others a lover .Many books have been written on techniques to get over it but I think for you to get over it is to think of your sweet grandson whom you love so much and decide to do it for him and I know you will.Try that Antique and I wish you all the success and a long life where all your dream come true

It sounds like you're addicted. The only thing I know to say is just keep trying. Before you know it, you will be quit. I never have been a smoker, myself. I never wanted to be because I wanted to be a singer and I didn't want to ruin my voice. I know there are some singers who smoke but I don't know how they keep their voice sounding so good. It will get them one of these days if it hasn't already, the way I look at it. I also knew that it wouldn't be good for me, anyway. Kathy.

You shouldn't have to stop smoking if doctor advice you to stop. I'm sure you regret it soon when you realize. I believe that have the will power to stop smoking. I always been giving words to my boyfriend to stop smoking for it turns out bad for your health.

Well that 30 minute willpower could be extended to longer hours and even for lifetime! That I really believe! I know many people think they don't have the willpower but I believe it is only because they don't really wanna have. Willpower can come with God's grace for as long as one is really committed and will help his owns self.. I've for a number of times been amazed how I was able to overcome bad and unhealthy habits. I really could not imagine I could manage. Well I call them God's grace!
Of course I will not talk to you about how bad smoking is [em]rasp[/em, after all you are not asking about it! Ha!ha!ha! Have a nice day my dear!
