Discouraging

Is anyone else discouraged by the blatantly racist representations of President Obama that seem to be floating around everywhere? For a country that was supposed "past racism," we still seem awfully full of racism.

Yes, I figured that is what you meant. but I want to know what you consider to be a racist image of Obama, would you describe a few? Give me examples.

Where were you, Thomas, when Bush was being protrayed as monkey? Or Hitler? Do you think any of this is new? What's racial about it? C'mon, give us your examples, Dude.

As I said in my earlier post, the racist pictures of Obama I was referring to can be seen in all sorts of media, but in particular the tea parties thrown by protesters. There are many ways that people can choose to express their views and oppositions to Obama's policies, without resorting to ridiculously racist portrayals of an African American President.

It goes both ways. Last I heard you could vote for whoever you wanted to. Now if you didn't vote for Obama you are a racist. Had nothing to do with whether or not he believed he was going to be a good president. You were just supposed to vote for him because he was black.

Irishidid - I'm with you on that one. I had someone call me racist during the primary because I didn't come out and chant Obama. I didn't vote for him becuase I don't hold to the same beliefs he does. for example Abortion - it really turned me off when he had said he would let his daughters get an abortion because he doesn't feel they should be punished for the rest of their lives for one mistake. It wasn't because of the color of his skin. And I did vote for Hillary because as much as I feel the Clinton's had their chance and ran the country into the ground, at least she'd been there before and would be able to hit the ground running.

I am in no way suggesting that people who disagree with Obama or who didn't vote for him are racist. What I AM arguing is that pictures of him dressed as a witchdoctor reveal certain assumptions on the part of those who would create such an image. (FYI, this particular image was carried in several of the "tea parties" many protesters have been throwing.) This image clearly has some very racist overtones, and I find that very disturbing.

Welcome to myLot, Thomas! I hope you like it here as much as I do. I'm feeling discouraged by quite a bit that's going on these days, to be honest. I remember feeling just the opposite during the campaign, thinking about how we'd definitely have either an African-American or a woman candidate for President of the United States and early on in the process that didn't seem to be the focus, not on the channels I was watching at least. Now and then it was brought up that "history will be made" and there were opinion polls asking if Americans were "ready" for a woman or a black man in the White House but it wasn't nasty for the most part. I'm not sure when it started to change but it sure did. It's such a touchy subject it's hard to even discuss without making somebody mad. I can understand how someone who isn't racist would be upset if someone implied that they are but it's gotten to the point where if someone says SOME of those who are so passionately against Obama have feelings of racism it's taken to mean that ALL of those who disagree with him about anything must be racists, and that's just not true. Just like the way that Homeland Security report that said "right-wing extremists" may be targeted by terrorist groups for recruitment was taken to mean ALL conservatives (a word not even mentioned in the report) are potential terror suspects. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Are you for real? What racism? All I see is FAIL. Stop pulling the race card and making excuses for the worst president this country has ever seen.

It is unfortunate, that Obama can hide behind the 'racism' blanket and basically change the United States into a country I soon won't recognize anymore. I am not from the U.S., but Obama was the wrong choice for a country built on the premise of freedom of choice. Every president has had pictures published, that I am sure they would rather not have viewed. Obama is the first President that can use the racist card, and get away with it. If Americans were that racist, he would not have been elected in the first place.
