Im just wondering, would it be a good idea to have a no lections in 2010 or maybe just delay it for a year or so. Because of the recent tragedy that happens here in the Philippines where millions of family got affected and still many are in need of help. I taught that it might be a good idea to delay the elections for next year. We all know how much politicians spends for their campaign. Billions in fact, i just felt it will be immoral that politicians spend lots of money for commercials and endorsement when some of our countrymen are still in dying need of help.

I don't think a no election in 2010 is good idea... since this could be our chance to choose a leader that will stir us to the right path... we all know how the current administration is plagued with a lot of controversy... and people will just protest and think that GMA is trying to use the calamity to extend her power...
So i vote for Election 2010...

I just watch in the news that we are asking for financial aid from other countries... and for sure they will donate a lot of money... and that is suppose to be alloted to the rehabilitation of a lot of the infrastructure destroyed by the typoons... and even give jobs to those who are in need... there is already a budget for the coming election... so with money coming in... there is no need to postpone it...

That is a good news that we are receiving financial aid from the international community, what i can't swallow is the billions of pesos politicians spend when they can just donate it to the affected families...im sorry aseretdd it is just my view, sorry!

I know, but it is our only chance to changed things up not just the leadership. We spending Billions of tax money rehabilitating the affected areas and providing basic necessities for the victims and if another typhoon hit us again and same thing happen that will be another billions pesos of our own tax money. Why we always care about the people protesting in the streets shouting at the top of their lungs... that is nothing, compared to what this government can do to changed things. This is an opportunity to changed things so it will not gonna happen again.

hmmm.. personally i think its better we go on with the elections. coz right now, the current seated aren't exactly doing what's best for the country. or if they actually are, they aren't doing enough. what we really need right now is a change of leadership. one that would lead the people, one that would be able to actually unite the public. heck! if it wasn't for the calamity, nobody would've stood up and say "we need to do something".. i don't mind politicians spending billions for their campaigns, as long as they spend more for the country itself.. and i don't mean monetary values.. i'm referring to spending efforts to find real solutions for our perennial problems, specially those for calamities and other tragedies..

i just feel that the next president will not be different though. he won't be able to bring progress in our country either.

well.. i actually am expecting the next leader to make a difference. but the more important thing here is really a change of leadership. and i'm not referring to just the president. but the chain of command as a whole. the public is already tired of all the horseshit MOST of our leaders are doing. i don't think the public could bear another term of the same situation.

I think the present administration would be happy to hear that thought. They could better get used of their resources to either squander the funds in their hands. This can buy them time to make their image look good to the public. I say we continue with the election and see if the present administration is still capable of staying in power and whoever is the next leader chosen to lead this nation should handle what they have left. I think the transfer of power should not be stopped because it is what is needed right now.

I would agree to that proposal if the present administration is trustworthy and can be relied on to extend their length of term. But we have doubted this administration if they could deliver the services needed. I think the relief operation of the government would continue despite the election campaigns are going through. We need to exercise our right for change in the government and it is due time that this exercise will not be postponed in the time it is duly provided by law.

i don't know. i feel that if we will delay the elections i think the people will wonder if this is another tactic from the government to stay in power. and that will create another series of rallies. and i think we should just go with the election by next year.

People can rally if they want, the point is instead of spending money in the campaign why not give it to the affected families. They will be criticized after the election anyways on why they are spending that so much money where they can donate it to the victims instead.

I think it would be better to pursue the elections though it's gonna be rough I know. and the next Philippine president will have a hard time recovering the country from all that happened during the Arroyo administration

hello stephon8,
I'm afraid i may have to disagree on that. rain or shine we should have the elections on schedule. otherwise, we will have a lot more rallies and protesters walking down the street claiming that the Government might declare Martial Law and that wouldn't be a good impression in the international community, specially to filipinos living abroad.

Hello letranknight25, if martial law is the only solution to speed up the rehabilitation of the affected areas then so be it. It is so hard for the government to move this people out off danger area, they keep coming back. What if another typhoon hits this areas and many will die again, that will be a much badder impression to the international community.

no need to delay, if politician can spend on their campaigns i guess they do have time spending some for the benefit of others. and people don't want to delay it since they needed a new leader.

hello rdsantos
I see your point, you don't want to delay the election. Look also the argument of by not having an election politicians can give money to the affected families instead of spending it in the campaign. Im sure people will understand if they cam make it as an excuse.
