Most of us have probably heard it said that life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer it gets to the end,the faster it goes. There is another that says life goes faster after you reach top because it's all downhill. I will be seventy on the 22nd of this month and I can vouch for the fact that time appears to go faster than it ever did before. I remember as if it were yesterday, how the days seemed to drag by when I was a child in school, and a year seemed like an eternity. They did appear to go faster as a young adult and more so as I entered middle age, but nothing like today. I don't think that I've started going down hill yet though, and I guess that means they will go even faster someday in the future. I have a lot to be thankful for, especially that I have no major health ailments and can still go for my walks and enjoy writing short stories that I publish on the Internet, and hope to publish in a book someday soon. I also enjoy the time that I spend here on myLot with all my wonderful friends. We don't always agree and I don't think that we should, it would make life far too boring, don't you agree?

Hello Pose.
I agree with you on the view that "we don't always agree and I don' think that we should.Otherwise it would make life far too boring." It is absolutely true of it.
With the great improvement of people's living standard in China, I have found that more and more aged people as well as middle-aged and young people are getting more and more active in their leisure life. I discovered this this summer when I went back to my hometown for the summer vacation. You know, my own apartment is located in the center of the city, where there is a square called People's Square, a place for people to enjoy their leisure time. Every morning at around six or earlier, I can hear music from the square with a lot of old people dancing and practising Taiji there. I even went to have a look there one early morning. After dark, when everyone is done with their dinner. More people come to the square to dance to the music. Of those dancing people, I see a lot of people, young and old, dancing happily as a way of keeping fit and healthy. I am very interested in watching them dance each time I go there with my baby son. The square is always crowded with people of all ages and all walks of line.
With this kind of scene on the People's Square, it is the same with people in the small city where I have been working. People, not only young, but also old are enjoying themselves a lot in any form they prefer. We have a saying in China that life seems to be at its best when one reaches his or her aged life.
What's more, my mother is seventy-three years old while my father is ten years older than my mother. They both enjoy their retired life at home, doing sports like jogging and taking a walk every day, both in the morning before breakfast and in the evening after dinner. Life is enjoyable to them.
I am very happy that I went back home for our National Holiday from September 27th to October 5th to see my aged parents so healthy and happy with their life as well as my parents-in-law.
So you see, it is not bad to get aged or older because by then we will have a lot more time to enjoy what we cannot when we were young. I am starting to like whatever age I am at.
Pose, May I wish you a very Happy Birthday to You in advance.
Love from williamjisir

I am only 27, and I feel like time is already flying. I remember after Christmas 1995 thinking "Wow! Didn't we just celebrate Christmas 1994 yesterday?" And it's now 2009, so you know how long ago that was. Time seemed to start flying for me about the age of 13. I'm 27, and my husband is 63, and we both know that time seems to just fly by, so we are making the most of every second.

It definitely goes faster nearing the end, days are shorter and time flies by so quickly. I hope you do publish those writings of yours in a book, that will be quiet an accomplishment. People don't always agree on some subjects but they can agree to disagree. Variety is the spice of life.
cheers.

I don't think anything gets faster although it might seem that way. I'm a year away from sixty, am writing a book, started cartoon drawing and still have a full time job.
I also have no savings, just a couple paltry pension plans that are worth very little money.
I depend on God and the only problem I have is the loss of physical ability.
And then, there are others who are a lot worse off than I am.
So what ?

I have to agree with you. As I entered my 50's, I really started to feel that the years were going by a lot faster than ever before. I often think back to my childhood when the school year seemed to drag on forever and even though I wished summers would never end, they seemed like they were gloriously long and wondrous. Nowadays, the years seem to just blend together and they're over before you know it.
It sounds like you are enjoying life at this stage and that's a great thing. I look forward to the days of a slower lifestyle and less stress myself. Hopefully, it's not too many years away! By the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Well young man I can only agree with you. My theory and it's only a theory is that once you have lived life you tend to reminisce. When we are younger, what life have we lived that would send us into a time ignoring day dream? That is why the days felt and seemed so long. Now as we grow older we tend to sit down on a bench and simply watch the world go by and just observing and remembering the things we use to do. It's like driving your car and leaving the house to go to the store and your mind wonders off into a daze and the next thing you know you are pulling into a parking spot. You sit there and how the heck did I get here so fast when you know the trip was at least 30 minutes. Now I can't tell you if being lost in day dreams as we get older making the days fly by is a bad thing or not. Maybe it's just the fact you had a fulfilled life and you just haven't topped your other experiences yet. Needless to say, I see where you are coming from.

How right you are! Gone are the endless afternoons wondering around trying to find thing to do like when I was a child! These days I am never, ever bored and time flies so fast, it is frightening. I guess as you say, it will go by faster and faster as I get older.
I’m 48 years old and it’s only been in the last few years that I have put my priorities and values in the right order and I regret not having done it a lot sooner!
I became a mother at 40 so I am still at a stage where a lot of women were in their mid to late twenties! I just hope I can pull it off! Doing well so far!
I have been a member here for about a year and I wish I had discovered this place a lot earlier, at least I am finally doing what I love during my days writing and MyLotting could do with more money but that may come, you never know...
You’re right it’s not all about always agreeing with each other, it is when you open your mind to others’ views that you learn the most.

Advance Happy Birthday Pose. When I was younger, Pose I thought seventies would be a retiring age for me but when I reached fifties and experiencing joys of having grandchildren, I wish a much longer life. Though really life maybe faster it goes as it get's closer to the end, there are however factors that made it slower. One factor maybe is being a mylotter, our love for this site going back over and over to what we are used doing. Sharing ideas and participating with our friends discussions, caring for our friends made us enjoy life unminding it's ending. All we know is were strong and and can keep going. Our desire to be with our loved ones much longer is another factor, we don't feel life is going faster everytime we feel we are being loved. We don't want to end life as well without letting them feel they were well loved by us as well.

Hi,Pose123,I love your attitude about life. I wish I could write short stories in mylot when I were seventy. The length of life is not measured by time, but what you did. An old person who has a young mind is better than a youngster who has nothing in mind.

There's a lot I can say to that. I'm already 31 and I guess I'm already at the peak - career, life, job and on just about anything. At this point I have already achieved most of the things that I have dreamt of and wanted. I agree that when you were a kid, life is slower but when you aged, it goes a little faster. Time swiftly passed by without us hardly noticing it.

Everybody will get older, nothing is permanent in this life even animals, plants and all living things they're get older also, the best things is prepared for that one. They said if youre good person on your early stage when youre get older they love you to take care, like my grandmother she's very good to us all her grandchildren that's why,we love him very much. When the time she got sick totally bedridden, were the one taking care of her.Because when i remember when i was young,my grandmother love to make a dress for us,and i grew also with her.I didnt see her angry to us since when i was with her.She also loves cooking for us.And she's teaching good deeds,on how to be good to everyone, helping other people even not your relative or not related to you.She use to help some indegenous people, she help them to study. But when the time my grandmother got sick all the persons that she help are always coming to our house. We dont know them but they are one telling that what my grandmother did to them. One thing that i put in my mind is be good to everybody, helpful to anybody, treat everybody as you treat yourself.

Hi Pose,
I am a new entrant to mylot. I am 46 years old and yes you're right. Life certainly seems to move faster as we age. I have a few observations to make. Till we graduate we are wondering how to spend our time (besides the usual education and enjoyable university days). When we get into a job life is slightly more hectic because now we have a responsibility to handle. After marriage and children the days fly faster because we have to balance our precious time between work and family. Now achieving this balance is an art. If you have a scientific approach to this I will be indebted to you. What I am looking forward to is retirement when I can pursue the dreams I have.

Hi banandk, Thank you for commenting an welcome to myLot, I hope that you will enjoy your time here and make many friends as well as some money. I like this site very much and come here every day unless I'm away from home. Sorry, but I don't have an answer to balancing your time between work and family, except to say that for me family always came first. I think that each person has to work out a solution that's best for them. Blessings.

Great analogies, I hadn't really heard the first one before. But it is so true..
I used to think the days and years took forever when I was in school. now I can't believe how fast the year goes by.. Heck the weeks go by in a blink, and all i do is go to work and come back. I look forward to Thursdays because it is the start of my "weekend", but lately it seems like one has just passed and already it's Thursday again, and next thing I know a month is gone and I can't believe it's OCTOBER!
By the way. I'm 42. So if time starts speeding up.. holy cow!

Hi Pose123 you are right when we are kids times is so slow especially during school or in any boring moment. I am a not closed to 70 well I am 27 but I have noticed that time is going so fast there are days that I think I might only do 10% of the things I have to do. I just hope that when I get to your age it wont go a lot faster than now because then I wont be able to do anything in a day. I know that right now I have two kids, my husband and a house to take care of and that might be the reason why I am not having enough time to do everything that I need to do. My dad in September of 1930 so that must make him 79 and he loves to go to different states and he those not like to just relax you are always going to see him walking around cleaning the yard or doing something. I am glad that he has the heart to do all those things but I keep telling him to relax and take a nap or to just sit but he wont do it he would always say that he is ok. In his case when he is not doing much during the day he would say that it was a long day and that he was bored but when he is doing something he wont complain.
I wish I was a little like him.

I have notice that the years just seem to start and before we know it is over again. I am in my 60's so I know what you are saying that time goes by fast. When we are children we do not have care in the world. Then we become teenagers and can not wait until we are old enough to be on our own. Once we become adults we wish we could be young again. Yes it would be boring if everyone agree on everything.

I have felt same as you but it has a logical explenation. Kids has less problems they just play their games and dream so every day is the same and off course they're waiting for Xmas which make times longer. Now that we have a more complex way to see everyday, well everythin seems to be faster and we can't do anything but to learn to live our lifes as happy as we can do. Hope you can make your dreams come true.

I am just 21 years old but I do feel the same way. But getting old is just a natural part of our life as human beings. What's most important, is how we lived our life. It is about how we love and touch other people's lives.
When I was 10, I was rushing to be a teen so I can go to malls on my own and go out with friends. But when I was on my teen life, I was again rushing to finish my studies so that I can work and earn money and live my life to the fullest. But now, with my age, and the work that I have, It seems that I am not still contented and still looking for another job. There is no satisfaction or contentment.
With the kind of world that we have today and with the technologies, it seems that we just don't stop looking and searching. And when we get old, we still don't stop. And that's when we think that life is too fas because felt that we haven't done anything.
Whatever age we are right now, I think we have to pray and live our life to the fullest. Say to our parents and friends on how much we love them. For sure, before we die, we can say that we have lived.

Hi breinchem,Thank you for commenting and you are certainly very wise for someone who is just 21 years old. I think that should remain excited about life no matter what age we are and It's a great idea to tell our loved ones how much we care about them everyday. Life here is short no matter how long we live and we have to be ready for the next exciting adventure. Blessings.
