some people say it has connection to headaches because by not drying our hair in cold temperature, the water on the hair evaporates and this evaporation process is significally proven to have cooling effect, hence this drop of the body temperature can lead to many health related problems like headaches and hypothermia.when i was young my mother told me not to sleep with hair is wet because it will cause me headaches.but somehow my mother is true i got headaches maybe psychological but i get headache sleeping with my wet hair.what do you think about it?

I have slept with we hair many times. I do that all the time whenever I take bath at night. I have long and thick hair. It will take a long time to dry the whole hair. So, I prefer to sleep before getting my hair dry. I sleep in such a way that I can put my long hair down from the cot from the top of the pillow. Some people may get a headache.

Yeah, my mom always tells me not to sleep with my hair is still wet. I don't kno if I get headache because of this. But sometimes happen I am too tired to blow my hair dry, I still go to bed with wet hair.
My mom will normally use a dry towel to wipe away the wetness in my hair.

This is certainly a super good discussion. I've always wondered about this. Whenever my wet hair is plastered to the pillow, I took a short nap and each time waking up to a bit of a headache. I think that the scientific explanation (in my accordance) would be that the hair isn't allowed to dry naturally like the wind blowing and stuff like that, and plastered to the pillow, the wetness seeps through the head and hence, causing a mild headache. I think in the long run, it might not be too good for our health, but I might be wrong. So I've made it a point to sleep with dry hair. LOL. I will dry my hair and then go to sleep, should I take a shower late at night or early in the morning; whichever..

Hmmm. i have been told about this a couple of times already, some even said that it can damage your eyes... I don't really know what the connection is. hehehe. Now that i'm an adult though I still don't sleep when my hair is wet, cause I'm afraid i'll get a really bad headache. hehehe. plus I don't want to wet my pillows. lol.

I don't think so. Your wet hair affecting your head doesn't really make logical sense. Unless water drips through your skull, I would understand.

Hi amyson... thats absolutely true buddy.... even my mom use to give me the same advice..... and its scientifically true that if we sleep with wet hair, the moisture present in hair gets into our head and creates untolerable head ache.... so lets avoid such habit.......happy posting.......

Hi
The only obvious problem in sleeping with wet hair is the fact that it will spill over to your pillow. Or probably cause bacteria to grow on your hair. I've never heard of it causing headache or hypothermia, unless there is a scientific fact proven otherwise.

I think it's quite true too. Wet hair have a cooling effect that will cause your temperatur to drop. But mostly it's not only the headache that we must worry about, sleeping with wet hair will cause the hair not developing in good way, that will cause problems with hair too. At least try to dry it first with any hair dryer equipment, and make it a semi dry.

My grandma often told me not to sleep with wet hair because it was easy to lead to headache when I grew old. This is why I won't sleep with wet hair. I am not so afraid of headache, but I think it is terrible to make the pillow wet. Sleeping with wet hair will lead to have the cold easily, I guess. So perhaps it will lead to have a headache, too.

i don't think that headache has any connection with sleeping with your hair wet. it's just a myth like you get insane when you sleep with your hair wet. the only thing will happen when sleeping with your hair wet is that your pillow will get wet.

I agree with you that sleeping with wet hair is not good. It is not only headaches but also to your eyes. I also get headaches when I sleep during wet hair.

That is an old wives tale - but sometimes those tales are true even with no scientific evidence to back them up. I personally don't think the wet hair has any effect on a headache - there just isn't any rationale that would support the theory. The cooling effect would not be significant enough to lower the body temperature more than a degree or two - hypothermia doesn't set in until the core body temperature is below 95 degrees. My grandmother used to say going to bed with wet hair would cause pneumonia - but it never did :)

no, i think it doesn't have any connection at all. I sleep often with my hair still wet. I don't get any headaches. I think it is a myth. Sometimes, I take a bath & wash my hair so I can sleep well at night.

I don’t know really though I must say that sometimes I have headaches and sometimes I don’t. in the hot summer months, it’s a habit with me to shampoo just before bedtime and the wet hair makes my head feel so cool and its such a soothing feeling to lie on the bed just like that. I do it often though I must say that I have had headaches only a few times. So I thing those headaches were more to do with other things than wet hair. Also some people are more susceptible to cold so they might catch a headache if they go to bed with wet hair.

I already experience sleeping while my hair is wet and I really feel relax. Then, my mother is so angry with me as sleeping could cause you to be out of your mind. I do not believe it and some says sleeping while the hair is wet will make your hair white. I do not really experience getting headache and the headache for me is cause by the nag of my mother..lol..Well, seriously speaking I feel drowsy after bathing and I fine it nice to sleep with slightly wet hair as it feels cool.

When I was a kid I thought this was true. When I grew older I realized that this was just something old people created and planted to the mind of the young ones. I've been doing this for so long and nothings happening. I don't know if this has a scientific explanation anyway.

HI Amyson,
I do agree that sleeping with wet hair can lead to headaches if you do it very frequently.
I never sleep with wet hairs before. Most of the time I will wash my hair either in the morning or night time around 6pm.
If any cases whereby I have to wash my hair slightly late at night, then I will use hair dryer to blow dry before I go to bed. It is not good to keep wet hair while sleeping. The humidity on the hair slowly will make us feel headache,in long run, it might lead to some serious headache problem.
