how long will you hold your urine before going to the toilet?

As much as possible, I do not hold my urine. Whenever I feel the urge to urinate, then I go to the comfort room to relieve myself. Perhaps when I am on a bus or jeepney where I cannot urinate, then I have to wait. But for as long as there is no reason for me to hold, then I will not. I have heard that it is unhealthy to hold on with your urine considering that it may cause problems with health later on. It might create stones in the bladder or in the kidney.

it is shy to share you but i am telling that because to warn others. I have kidney stone problem( calcium content develops like a stone inside my kidney) Doctor says 1. it is normal to person who have large urine bladder - i may have large urine bladder 2. if you hold urine for a very long time - From my childhood i hold my urine for a very long time. During writing exam urine will kick in my bladder but i feel little shy to ask the teach " May i go to toilet " Now i go to toilet for urine only THRICE A DAY

I cannot hold that such time as you said. I reason is I am not woman first of all and I am not having the capacity as much as you can. I can hold maximum 2 hours but whenever I get chance I will definately go for toilet. It is not good for holding urnine for that such time. I understand when no toilet is near you but if a toilet is near you and then if you do not go because it is dirty then no one can help you. You have to go no other choice.. I flush water whereever I go for toilet and some just do not bother in flushing toilets in my country. So, I tell them to flush water and even tell them will you leave your toilet like that. Then they will understand and immediately do flush water..

In my case, my friend. I don't hold my urine because I feel it uncomfortable if holding it. Because I'm a guy i will urinate even the comfort room is dirty...Woman really not doing it because they need to sitting down being comfortable enough to release urine...Have a nice day!

Good for me as I haven't develop the habit of holding up my "pee". I make it sure that I go to a toilet whenever I felt it was coming. In the classroom, when my teacher is explaining important lesson. In a test where it needs to be finished on time. Or even during a meeting when somebody is explaining something. I see to it to make a stand, make an excuse politely and go down to the toilet to discharge. One good thing of being a man is that no matter how dirty the bowl or the toilet surroundings are, we can still release that fullness feeling without getting germs.

I would say that I only hold it for 7 hours at the most and about 3 hours regularly... but since I'm a guy I don't have the problem of worrying about sitting down on a dirty toilet seat (most of the time).

Hi dear! I think that holding urine is not good for our health. Urine should be discharged as soon as possible. Specially in women, holding urine could cause pain and uneasiness in the stomach and bladder. You see doing something against the natural process could always be painful. I normally do not hold my urine for 5-6 hours (as you have mentioned) and try to discharge it at the first available opportunity. I take plenty of drinking water and I am not afraid to go to toilet again and again.

I can hold my urine for the whole day. Now that I think about it I only rarely use the public toilets. I dont feel any pain since I thin Im used to it. Its an unconscious effort. However if there is no reason for me to hold the call of nature then why hold it right..? But the thing is that I really dont feel like urinating most of the day. Id feel that when I drank too much water than my usual 'too much'. Well, like I said, with me its an unconscious effort. If I feel that I 'got to go' and there's no stopping me then Ill 'go'. If I have to do something or be somewhere then it'll just have to wait, more than 8 hours if needed. And if you're gonna ask,..nope, I dont have bladder infections and never had them. Though I am aware that that might happen to me. So I try not to hold it as much as possible.^_^

I usually hold too long, especially during the night because it hurts my feet and legs so bad to get up plus I have to go down two flight of stairs to get to the bathroom, but then I pay for it in the morning. I am now trying to drink more water to hopefully ease some of the pain and stiffness but then that means I have to go to the bathroom more. During the day I make myself take several bathroom breaks (I use to go all day without one). It not only relieves my kidneys but it helps me to get in more walking which does help the stiffness.

Yeah, you point to a very serious matter. Holding urine for sometime doesn't matter but for a long time is definitely an invitation to serious diseases. I think how difficult it is for a women while in outside. I have also seen a female student of me had got a serious urine related disease from public urinal when she was compelled to share that place. That disease had almost killed her. She is not so ok now. Sometimes I ponder how to solve this problem? I think only a women's point of view could suggest a solution to this problem. What do you think?

Hi amyson Waw! 5 or 6 hourse is quiet long time! So far, my longest period in holding urine is only 2-3 hours, and yes, It make me feel painful I usually hold my urine to avoid public toilet. As other responders had say, most public toilet are dirty, I must try not to touch any part of it to mine and it's hard for girl like me! Or, when I'm in travel and I feel lazy to stand up and get out of the car.. Sometimes I hold it too in my college usually before I need to do presentation (maybe I feel nervous, but no time to go to the toilet! so I hold it until I finish my presentation). I think holing urine is not good for our health.. I often do it when I was child and the result was I got some kind of illness. So I feel like I can't hold my urine anymore but when I try to make it out, the urine doesn't come out and it feels so hurt! Now I avoid to hold it more than half hour.

i guess it's three or four hours,sometimes i never hold urine,because it's so bad for health,but when i go a place by a coach,i would find i often had that feeling of holding urine,because i have to stay in my seat for four or five hours!but it's luck the coach could make a stop when it arrives a service station!

That's like pure torture! I have this like small bladder. I usually empty my bladder for every 2-3 hours. When the weather is cold, it usually takes me only an hour to empty my bladder again. Anyways, in emergency cases, like exams, I can't really go out to have to pee, I can hold my bladder for about 5 hours.

i can hold my urine for 3 hours!! and yeah holding too long cause painful, and after i pee my stomach will feel very uneasy. =(

having to hold in pee maybe difficult or unpleasant, but if you are without acceptable facilities,privacy time or opportunity,or if you're not allowed to use the restroom there are always ways to cope..

I was laughing to myself when I first read your discussion topic, and found it even funnier when I saw how many people responded. Well, I thought to myself that I have to respond to this topic because I'm probably the worst offender out there for holding in their bladder. Well, every since I was a little girl I would regularly hold my bladder in for hours at a time. Why? Just didn't feel like going to the washroom because it interfered with my "playtime" activities. As I'd grown older I've still had this habit, though in my case I'll hold my bladder in at work for several hours just because I get really busy with my phone calls, and trying to get as much work done as possible. When I'm home I will hold my bladder for about 7-8 hrs overnight! I know it's terrible but what happens is that I might wake up and need to go, however once I awaken it's nearly impossible for me to get back asleep because I've had major sleeping problems for years. If I do decide to go to the washroom, I'll be instantly alert after and will be tossing and turning for several hours- not very pleasant.

Hi amyson, I used to hold my urine but only for an hour or so during sleeping time, but when I start conceiving I can't hold it anymore. It's either my bladder will get so painful or the urine will freely flow unnoticed. Before I got pregnant I usually have to move my urine every two hours and now that I'm pregnant I do it more oftenly and the longest interval is I guesss 30 minutes only. At night it keeps me awake every now and then but I have to bare with it otherwise, the doctor says I could have an infection which may affect my unborn baby. Good Day!

Holding urine is really bad for your health, just like your saying bladder infection. Most of the time I do not hold my urine once I have the feeling to do it as I feel so uncomfortable and I will spend more time to complete in the comofort room. Sometimes I am lazy, thus I hold the urine, which always in the early morning that I am not willing to get up and then go back to bed. The normal time I can hold is for one hour, supposed my consciousness is weak that I am concerned it is out of control. LOL.

Well I really don't know how long I can really? When I have to go I go the same time I need to go. Than if I'm on the road or somewhere far away from a toilet. Then I hold my urine for a while than if I can't hold it I run fast to go! LOL!

Hey! I tend to hold it as long as possible, even though I know it's bad for me. I just hate going to the bathroom in public bathrooms because they are so gross. I will avoid a public bathroom no matter what kind of pain I am in from holding my pee. I wish public bathrooms were more sanitary. It would make things a lot nicer for women and men.
