I have come up with a system for myself to stop myself from spending so much money and even to help me save money. so i thought that i would share my little system with you. Before i go shopping i also make myself a list and write down what it is that i need to buy. i also make myself a number of how much i am willing to spend so that way i am not going over that amount, so then i take that amount out of the bank and i leave my credit and bank card at home and spend only that amount. hope this helps you out. Happy Mylotting!

I also do the same thing but instead of cash, I pay through my credit card. I still set a budget of the amount. I make sure that I only use the amount on which I can pay in full come my due date. I never let my purchases to get penalty or interest charges. Thanks for sharing your system in savings, I know more people will be inspire by your system. Happy myloting.

We do this too, especially when we are grocery shopping. We are trying to be frugal in almost everything though.

i usually go shopping with an idea in mind but i usually walk away and think about the purchase. i seldom impulse buy unless it is a very good deal. But leaving your credit card at home is a very good idea!

My method is a bit more extreme. I just don't buy anything unless I really need it like now. I find that way you avoid buying a lot of things you just don't realise that you don't truly need to buy. It cuts back your spending by as much as 50 or 60 percent. Believe me.

Hi Swadey, My earnings is only for my needs, a part to support my mother and a part for my savings, for basic needs my husband takes care of it. At one point I've been spending part of my savings for luxurious thing like jewelries, dresses, shoes bags & everything that pleases me. I've started thinking what are the ways to spend less that I can't help spending knowing my money is just idle at the bank. And so I decided to invest on something that would keep my money worthwhile other than those things that I don't really need. My account turned out empty for several years but now I can see a much tangible investment for our future. Good Day!

I have done this for years, when I go shopping, I aways make a list, and I only buy what's on the list. Though I have to admit to sometimes getting something that's not on the list, it's generally somthing that I've forgotten to add to it. I've also been running a detailed cash flow and budget on exell for several years and this has allowed me to keep a tight control over my spending as it allows me to budget for expenditure up to 6 months in advance and the cash flow will show when and what I can afford to to spend each month.

Yes, I totally agree with you. I also do the same things, make a list first and then shop. This way, I buy all that I need and skip which is not necessary. I pay cash. I avoid credit card. If I have enough money then only I increase my desires otherwise buy only that things that is required. I was a very bad spender. I could not save any penny at the end of the month but following this has made me smart.

This is good...self-discipline. Just always leave something for gas or for your fare so can go home or to your destination.

I can't do some list what I am going to buy or to shop because I don't have an idea what to buy. Sometimes I just drop-by to mall and window shop but If I saw something that is very attractive, I plan and save money to buy it.

In my opinione,it is a very good habit.Weshoule make full use of money. When you go shopping, make a list and buy what you really want. What's more, you can do something better than shopping. You can buy more books for you and your family.Even you can trave everywhere in our country for better sharing. Only can you take advantage of the money, you will lead a more quality and wonderful life.

yeah, your system is really advisable but on my part, that system is not working. i have tried before to have a list but it is not effective to me. so what i do is buy first the one i need most then if i have still money left, i buy some stuff for myself.

I keep a detailed record of the money I had spent and will spend so I know exactly how much money that I still have, this is quite similar to your 'system'. I can save more than $100 a month by only drinking water after meal instead of soda, concentrate, juice, tea etc. Besides, preparing food/drinks at home helps me to spend less money; it is way cheaper to prepare my own coffee at home instead of buying it at the cafe.

As for me, before i spend my money, i save first! In this way i can budget my money well. I dont usually go shopping without saving first because i'll end up with nothing to save. Sometimes i am tempted to buy things which are not really necessary. Having a list when shopping help me a lot to focus on the things i needed most.

Hi Swadey, Thanks for sharing this with us. You can also include in you assessment stage this question? WANTS vs. NEEDS, FORCED % FOR SAVINGS and before anything else, pull this out and deposit it or sell it aside then proceed with budgeting plan! This works for me!

I have learned this the hard way, and am struggling to pay off credit card debts right now, which I had built up and then I lost my job through my company closing. Through a debtors recovery program I have learned the envelope system. This simply means when I have income, I literally out the amount of cash needed for each budgeted area (electric bill, groceries, etc) in separate envelopes, and when the money for that week in the envelope has gone, its gone. I also have to leave the credit card at home, that works well because if it isn't there, you can't use it!

yes, we do that too. it is so helpful and it really needs discipline to stick on the list and the number of items u allot to buy for the week. because sometimes, it would come out that we pick up something that is on sale or something that comes with an extra bonus. i do grocery shopping with my three children and they already are reminded that we only have that much of a budget every week.

You did a good job! It's easy to do and I also have tips.I aiways write down what I paid for and how much it cost. One week later,I go through it and think about it what I should not have bought. It also can help me save money.what do you think about it?
