I used to work in night shifts for two years. That period went without much struggle becuase it was my first job and I was single. I lived in a hostel where I got all the food cooked and there were servants to clean and do laundry. I liked night shift because I got ample time during day to spend for shopping and to do a part time work. The worst part is that it was eating up my health. Do you have experience working in night shifts? What do you think about working in night shifts?

This is the last thing i want to do in life. To stay awake when all others are snoring. I would rather get up early and finish my work than work in a night shift. But i know in business establishments we have no choice but to work alternatively in both the shifts

I know that it is hard but sometimes you don't have an option. I worked as a tutor for US students and I was forced to work on night shifts because when we have night, it is day in America. They paid pretty well for the job and I got special allowance for working in night shifts. I was a team lead there. Thanks for the response.

Fourteen years is a long time. It is sad that you can't join with gf for a dinner, but have a two day weekend. Right? So, dinner can be moved to that that time. I also got a lot of freedom, but at a point I got bored of it. It took a long time to change my sleepig habits once I shifted to a day shift job. I used to sleep in my day shift office for three days after quiting night shift job.

i don't like night shifts because i can't joke with my sleep , the only thing that will make me prefer night shift is if i can be able to sleep earlier in the day, aside that, i need to sleep in the night, i have seen people being sacked because they slept while on duty

My step father has worked night shifts for over 10 years and I don't think he hates it. I know he gets paid more than he would if he worked during the day which kind of makes up for the inconvenience it might cause. Anyway, it worked well for our family as when we were younger he would be around during the day to pick us up from school and cook our tea. He was able to sleep while we were at school and in the evening when my mother had got home before he went to work again. These days he just sleeps during the day though and can get more sleep as my siblings and I have grown up and can take care of ourselves. I think he wants to spend more time with my mother as she also works long hours and they only get to see each other at the weekend. I think for some like my step father it is an ideal option but it would be inconvenient if you were unable to find enough peace to sleep through the day. Lucky where I live there aren't many houses around and it is peaceful.

I have few years of night shift under my belt and it's not the best for a family. I am so glad I'm done with it now. For someone single, night shifts may not be so bad unless they love the night life. But for me, it was the hardest to be away from my wife and son. For some reason working nights just makes a couple grow apart. I have heard some people say the more time apart you have the more you miss or long for your partner. As for me, night shift was just not the best experience.

I worked night shift for a few weeks for a special event when I was a teenager. it wasn't so hard back then. I think it would be a lot harder now.

I used to love shift work when I was younger but now I would stay away from it. At my age I think that a good night's sleep is much too important to do away with. It does give you more time to do other things but it also does away with a lot of your sleeping time. This is work for young people.

I don't like this idea at all! I used to work nights and I was working twelve hours a night on a shift pattern. I felt so tired and exhausted and I sometimes found it difficult to sleep during the day as there were quite a few workmen drilling and so forth. I said to myself that I would never work nights again! I'm pretty sure that working nights is bad for your health, at least in the long term. Every new day the sun shines and we should benefit from its rays, this is pure life giving energy! If you work nights then you are missing out on this wonderful gift! Andrew

I hate working in Night shifts. I have worked in night shift for 3 weeks due to some clinet requirement and i totally felt irritated to work in the night shift. For some people, working at night is a real fun but the case is not the same with me. Night shifts eat up our health to a great extent. I work in software side and sitting infront of the computer for entire night means you gonna loose your health to a great extent. If it involves a physical work in the night time, then it is not of a big problem. But the case is not same if it is for a software professional. Working in Night shifts without proper exercise and food habit spoils your health to a great extent and some of my colleages are affected by diabetics and Blood pressures even at the age of 30 and 32. I assume that call centre night shift jobs must be worser than the Software side. Being a guy, I never have an ardent interest in shopping and I have saturday/sunday's of to enjoy myself and hence i am completely uninterested in working in night shifts although the pay is higher in night shifts. Thanks for starting the discussion and have a great day. Cheers:0-)

I never work in night shifts. I know it would be very tired as I have the experience of stay up all night, it makes me exhausted and I can not have deep sleep at daytime. Once there is a offer for me, the pay is much better than my current job, anyway I just give it up, as like what you say, it is eating up our health.

i haven't had worked on night shifts. i don't know if i can pull that off if i am assigned to night shift. it would be a welcome change though. i may feel it would be hard at first but i know i will learn the ropes when time passes. i do whatever work to earn if this is anything but illegal.

Of all the jobs I've ever had I never considered the night shift. My late husband loved working third shift. Only problem there was, he'd get his days and nights a little mixed up. If he had a doctor's appointment, we ended up going the wrong day because he was thinking about his work shift. He would end up going a day late and have to make another appointment. I had the opportunity once to work third shift with him. It was not for me. I just can't sleep during the day.

My Circadian clock will probably not work properly if I would be working night shifts for a whole 2 weeks. I tried working at night but never for a straight 2 weeks or more.

Yup, I'm in night shifts 3/4 of the time, and I kinda of loving it already. In fact, although it's tiring, you are right; I do get things done during the day and sometimes in between sleeps. The only setback is the non-social life that I tend to miss, but then again, if it is about work, then it doesn't matter totally. Work is more important, because it is part of our career process. I don't think I can ever get used to the day job. In fact, I'm knocking off in awhile because my night shift has ended. I'm skiving in the lot like crazy, LOL. Have a good one.

I also liked it when I used to work in the night shift. At that time I used to do a part time day shift and I could easily manage both without much hazards. I also liked to sit at home alone and watch whatever chnnels I wanted. My parents wanted me to get into a day shift job and it is then I started looking for jobs. Thanks for the response.

Pros of night shift = not having the big boss and his/her butt kissers breathing down your neck so you don't have this stress of needing to be perfect. The atmosphere is more relaxed and you feel more confident. Cons = You will grow fangs and become allergic to garlic

It is very struggle in working night shift because your sleeping routine that you've been doing since you are still a child will change. Though you take time to sleep in the morning after work, you can't hardly do it because you are not used to sleeping during daytime. This things will affect your sleeping habit and cost you stressed.

I've worked in a cell center company before and I was assigned on a night shift. I never really liked it. I can't make myself stay awake. Working on a night shift is stressing, more tiring although I must admit that the pay is better. However, my lifestyle is ruined and also my health. After that 3 month period, I requested for a transfer in the morning shift where I can be more productive.

i spent 2 1/2 yrs working on night shift, it's very tiring and stressful than day shifts. the only thing i could after work is to sleep the whole day and even on dasy off i only tend to sleep, i can't do more things even going out friends would be tiresome. so i decided to just stop and find a regular working hours instead.
