I have a phobia of blood and heights. When I was young I witnessed someone got stabbed in front of me. From then on when I saw blood I felt dizzy and sometimes fainted. Then one time I was playing with some friends I fall down from a tree. From then on I'm scared of heights. Whenever I'm in high places I felt weak and stop. I just can't continue to go up. I don't know if I developed these phobias or in born and just triggered by events. What do you think? Feel free to share your knowledge and experiences. Happy MyLotting!

I have taken psychology and one of the experiments was on a little boy. They decided to test if we are born with phobias or of they vare learned. Basically they gave the boy a white rat to play with (the subject was around aged 1 and wasnt scared of anything his name was 'Little Albert') To cut a LONG story short they scared him every time he played with the white rat. He eventually became scared of lots of little white things, including father christmas because of the white beard. The psychologist was going to cure him but the mother wouldnt allow him anywhere near the little boy again as he seemed to have a phobia of all white things. So this brings the theory that phobias are learned and not built in!

It doesn't sound very nice! What happened of the little one? And what the relation between psychologist and white things?

No it was a very mean experiment to do on a child. The little one had a phobia until his adult life :( the only relation between the psychologist and white things is that the rat happened to be white so he tested the boys reactions to different objects after the tests to see what effect each object would have on 'Little Albert'. He was scared of all of the white objects.

i have developed a phobia from street dogs.previously i wasn't even bothered by them but once i witnessed a street dog bite my sister on her way home from school.she was taking vaccinations but it reacted and she had to be hospitalised. i was too young to understand all these and somewhat developed a fear of street dogs which i have carried to my adulthood. i have increased anxiety till now in the presence of street dogs.

I thought I had phobia of spiders but later I found out about other persons and their phobias. Maybe I am not that phobic, I can stand their pictures, their presence near me etc. And I don't think I had any history with spiders, so maybe some phobia are born...(was my mother attacked by a spider while pregnant?)
