This is for those that have been drooling over past photo's/discussions I've done about my gardening foods etc. Yet another homemade apple pie. Here's a phoyto of it right after it came out of the overn. This time I lightly brushed the crust with milk to make it brown better plus I sprinkled sugar on it as well. When was the last time you did sometging differnet to a recipe to make it better?

I'm not terribly inventive. But the last time was last week when I put some red peppers in some beef stew that I was making. I hadn't ever put any kind of peppers into stew. Wasn't bad.
Here's a bowl of stew. Can I have some pie?

Wow! How in the world did I miss this discussion? Going through inbox and found it still unread.
That pie, although long gone by now, sure looked delious, Grandpa Bob. I've done what you did and also brushed melted butter on the crust as well or even a tad bit lemon juice along with the sugar. Next time, buy a box of Sugar in the Raw and sprinkle that on instead. That's even better than reg. sugar.

Oh you would do this wouldn't you??? I just now got over not having any fresh apple pie from the last time you showed us your first pie. haha I have never heard of brushing milk on the top to get it to brown, have always heard of egg lightly brushed on things. Ok, now I will go look at the picture. I hope I don't drool all in my keyboard as it looks like I have more discussions in my inbox from you.

That looks great! Too bad I don't like apple pie, in rare cases I"ll eat it with ice cream.
I do make changes from time to time. Usually it's the sugar content or type if I make any type of changes. Or I'll interchange say chocolate chips with m&m's, or pb chips for example or switch around various nuts as well.

hi the last time I did something to change a recipe was to add
a lot of garlic to the tomato sauce I was using for my spaghetti and Italian meat balls. the ready made sauce was tomatoey but lacked some zing and garlic was the zing that it needed. Also some oregano and basil too. the makers of that particular spaghetti sauce had no imagination at all thus it was bland.

You should see me with rice and my cupboards.
I add things to plain rice making a full dinner with meat and
veggies added to the rice. A cheap, quick, and filling meal.

I cannot follow a recipe to the letter to save my life, so I do not know when the last time was I did something to improve a recipe. It is just a way of life for me to do it.

That looks really tasty! Can you send that over my way? lol I've never made a homeade apple pie before. I bet it tasted good with the sugar on the top as well. I have a recipe for taco soup that I always kinda mix up a little bit each time I make it.

Oh I didnt know that by brushing milk and sprinkling sugar, the crust gets crispier! I should try it. I guess you again put it in the oven after brushing the milk, right? I keep on experimenting and sometimes the result is disastrous and sometimes I come out in flying colours!!!
Hmm apple pie made of apple grown in your own garden yummm anyone???
