Have you heard of a story about Facebook and a mother? The story focuses on a grown woman who turned down her daughter's request for homework help because Mommy Dearest was tied up with Facebook.
As a popular social networking website, Facebook is becoming more and more popular, but then, Facebook is to blame for "friendship addiction" now. Women are particularly vulnerable because their self-worth stems from relationships with others and Facebook compels them to "acquire" hundreds of friends.
So, are you addicted to Facebook? Have you spend lots of time keeping in touch with friends there.

I think both women and men can be addicted to Facebook. I happen to be a woman and yes, I am addicted to Facebook - hee hee.
I am also a mom, but certainly I don't forget my duties as a mother (or wife!). I happen to be at home with my daughter, so I do have acccess to a computer when I need to. But my daughter always comes first. I am addicted - but please, I do have my priorities!
Some use Facebook to meet others, but I only use Facebook to connect with those I already know. Sure I've reached out to other people from the past, but still these are people I knew in real life. I don't particularly have time to speak on the phone, so it's a great way for me to keep in contact with friends - at my own leisure.
Like I said, it's not necessarily only women that are addicted. I have a few male friends who are on Facebook more than me or my girlfriends!

I have never been addicted to FAcebook though I have an account there. This story reminds me of my sister. She wakes up early in the morning to log in to facebook and then gets tied up with it. She sometimes forgets to feed her daughter because she could not get herself out of sitting in front of the computer. I believe that the person has the sole control of herself. One needs to know when and where to stop in order to attend to the more important things in life.

Yes, some people post their responses to tell me that they have never such a situation. But as you have met, women are easily addicted to Facebook relationship.
Good luck!

I maybe addicted to FaceBook but its not just the women thing, there are lots of men that are on it moning noon and nighht so they maybe me addicted to it, bu for me I reallly use FaceBook for my Fairyland to look after my plants and others also to get as many Gold as I can and it always excite me me when I get a snail or a diamond the I'd do a happy dance whe I get a wild life, that gives me a diamond too, what I like about the fairyland is helping the rain forest so I know I am doing good, so do you think I am addicted to Fairyland? Maybe you are not addicted to Facebook. However, there are really so many people around me are spending much time on Facebook, which is useless and a weste of time.

Women like to share their lives with others. Men have never understood this. It's like when a man finds out a woman delivers the baby. You ask the man, so what's the baby's name? How big was the baby? The inevitable answer: I don't know. Men just don't care to know the details. Women do. This is why women share pictures of weddings, vacations, etc. with each other and the fastest way to do that these days is through sites like Facebook. So while I respect your opinion as a man to not want to know the details, please don't fuss about women just because they do. It's nature.

Funny about it, I am caught in Facebook; I won't lie to no one here; I go there first before I hit my emails; It's a place where you can check out stuff before it drops; When Michael Jackson passed, there was a lot of commotion on there that day; I had to ask that whatever the verdict that we pray if anything. I play the games on there; but I come from there and go elsewhere. Twitter is ok, but if I got something to say, 144 words max just won't cut it.plain and simple.

yes.. I am addicted to facebook... but its because of the games there. I do farmville, farmtown, barnbuddy, country life. Now I stay to stay on those games and not add more I won't be able to out in front of the monitor. sometimes those games could eat up a lot of time that's why I just plant and harvest. These days I rarely visit the friend's farm. Whew.. visiting neighbors could eat a lot of time.

I have been a member of Facebook for a while but I rarely log into it unless I have a message or a friends request. I find that I don’t have the time really. My sister loves Facebook and she’s there every chance she gets; my sister in law is like that too! I prefer being on MyLot; because I can’t tear myself away from here, I have no time for FB!

I'm not addicted to Facebook at all because I really don't like it. To much going on at once I believe. The only thing I like are the quizzes. I only go on maybe once a month.

Hi Getbrowser,
I have a facebook account but i am not so attracted to it. i better spend my time with mylot than with facebook. When i started with facebook i was so excited then, i even change my shoutout once in a while the most that i did was evryday for one week but after a month or two i am no longer excited to work on it. now, i seldom check my FB account. My brother even asked me to check my FB bacuse I have so many birthday greetings (last month). I did. I thank my friend and send them note individually. Now it's been two weeks since my last FB visit. I am motivated to update my photos and shoutout but i don't have enough drive to do it. I better YM my friends because i am always online but not with FB.
I felt so bad about the story of that mom prioritized FB than her child. There's nothing wrong in being hook with FB or any social networking sites, we need to know our priorities and sensitive enough to respond to the needs of our family especially our kids!

Thanks for the BR friend. Let's have more quality time with our family especially with our kids because soon they will have their own priorities and it will be hard for us to have their time and find time to spend with each other.

Yes, I absolutely love Facebook and am totally addicted! However, at the same time, I do not randomly add "friends" just so that I appear to have more. I personally know everyone on my list. I'm also not one of those people who friends all my high school classmates in order to appear more popular. I wasn't the most popular then and don't need to be now. The handful of friends on my Facebook who I did go to high school with all asked to be my friend. I did not seek them out.
As for the woman who was too busy to help her daughter with homework, that is ridiculous. Grow up and be a parent.
As to the theory that women are hooked on getting more friends to increase their self-worth, I find that totally false. There are thousands of confident women who don't need such validation. For those that do, some are struggling to break that cycle and winning (this would be me!) transforming themselves into confident women. For the rest, I hope that one day they will also learn to stop basing their happiness upon what other people think of them and rather base their happiness upon what they think of themselves. It is the only way to pure peace and joy. :)

Facebook is okay, however I prefer myspace much more. Just because it is more easy to navigate and we have the locals in there.

Though your question is directed to women, still I will answer it
Hmm... I used facebook fairly often and could have been addicted but the strike came at right time. I happened to be absent for sometime and a lot passed behind me, I don't know what! The other time I logged in it was not accepting my password.. Didn't even send resetting link. And recreated my account from scratch with same id while old one is still there What the use of getting addicted to such a site!
And still my sister is addicted to it. Maybe it's a women thing. LOL

I like Facebook, but hearing stories about others, and seeing people online playing games all of the time, I realize I am not quite as addicted as I thought. I go on about once or twice a day. I don't play the games. But I have responded on pages of a business before. That was an old store from my hometown.
It's funny that the story here is mainly referring to women. The people that I mostly see playing the games while I am online are men. I even have seen a preacher playing a Mafia game on numerous occasions. I don't understand how that can even be right? But, then again, it is just a game.
I do like catching up with old friends that I haven't heard from in over 20 years. But, I think after the new wears off, that it isn't quite as interesting unless you do play some of the games or do something to keep active on the site.

I've never joined that site and really have no interest in it. I don't see the attraction. My sons are on it but they're not obsessed with it. I don't think there is anything there that would interest me except that it would be another way to talk with my adult children who live in another state.
