I am in love with HDR since I saw High Dynamic Range images shown on the internet few years ago. If you haven't known, this technique involves merging three exposures (+1 EV, 0 EV, -1EV) of a single scene. Various photographic softwares, like Photomatix, HDR Photostudio2, HDRMax, and Adobe Photoshop CS2 can merge those three exposures into one 32 bit per channel High Dynamic Range image. Photomatix Pro can tonemap those HDR images into 8 bit per channel image with various results depending on the settings used. I have my own HDR collections I would like to share. You can find it here: http://www.strivearth.com/Galleries/zen-s-high-dynamic-range-photography love it if you can comment on them ;)

I need to spend a quiet hour just looking - because this is so different from anythng I have seen. It seems to be a new art form. It is on a totally new level and I can't get my head around it yet.

Welcome to the lot. So, you can adjust the settings on each layer as you do them and make the picture more than it is? Sorry, I am not a high tech kind of gal, although I do like playing around in photoshop. Your pictures are fantastic, by the way.

Well, what I do is usually this: after tonemapping with photomatix (you can learn that on the internet, btw), I do some adjustments using photoshop with plugin called Topaz Adjust 3. It is a nice plugin for adjusting colors, contrasts, details and noises at one go. After I got the look that I want, I adjust it more using adjustment layers (hue-saturation, contrasts, levels, photo-filters, channel mixers) to get the final look that I want. There is nothing technical here, just some patient learning and an eye for beauties ;)

Oh wow, so in addition to being an engineer and a talented cartoonist, you take some really nice photos too! I only had time to look at a few (will come back later), but I really like them.

I had another look. My friend Libby pointed out, and this struck me too, that your photos look a lot like paintings in a way. But they're really beautiful!

I have always been fascinated with photography. I tried to read softwares about photography but I find it hard to understand. I also wanted to buy a new camera. I get magnitized by black and white photos. They seem to be elite looking. I hope that I could devote more time experimenting on the softwares like adobe photoshop and hopefully will be able to buy my own camera.

I am too so fond of black and white. I also have the sepia coloured ones from the late 1800"s. My realives in all their glory. So solemn looking because taking a photograph then was no laughing matter! But they are treaured because they captured a brief moment in time.

To make good photos, one doesn't need high priced cameras or high priced softwares. You can start with cheap pocket camera like Canon Powershot A480 that will take good pictures and edit the pictures taken with Adobe Photoshop Element. Those will make you able to get that black-and-white (or silver-looks) that you are fascinated about.
