When I saw the headline this morning (Obama gets Nobel Peace Prize), I said to myself, they are going to go crazy about this over on the lot. And so far I have seen two discussions on the topic, didn't read them yet, but one was saying she didn't think he deserved it and the other was saying that it had been cheapened yet again. I foresee an exciting Obama bashing day here on the lot. Not that I think he has done enough to warrant the award, but would it really have mattered, I wonder? Anyway, how many discussions do you think we're going to see on this topic today before things die down? Do I get points for precognition or was it obvious that there were going to be lots of discussions about it? Am I allowed to be silly in the politics interest or do I need to put my flak jacket on? Where is that blue rabbit?

I saw this last night and thought it must be a joke. I had the same thoughts as you, thinking the Lot would be overtaken with discussions about whether or not he deserves it. It is a pity your discussion has turned into a "for/against" when it wasn't your intention, but it is to be expected. You might need your flak jacket - and indeed anyone who responds.
Being an Aussie, I don't like to comment on the politics of another nation, and I'm not doing so, but forgive me for querying my idea of the Nobel Prize. Isn't it for ACTUAL ACHIEVEMENT and not for a POTENTIAL achievement? I am not aware of any ACTUAL achievement in this area. Could someone enlighten me?

Maybe there is another award we can make?
Could this be the reason myLot has stuffed up?

He may have started the building blocks that will lead to an actual achievement, but I agree, there hasn't been one that's Nobel prize worthy yet.

hi dawnald is it safe for me who does not dislike
obama to even breathe on this screen let alone
write here, will they throw rotten eggs or just
send an atomic bomb at me, or just write mean
nasty things? I do not often well almost never
answer political discussions as I seem to be in the
minority here with my views and I hate being dissed
and even hated. I am not wearing my suit of armour
right now either. lol lol lol.

Ok, I just got here, too. I'm guessing there will be at least 7 today...not counting yours. And, yes, you get points for precognition. I hope you don't need your flack jacket but the rabbit probably has it anyway.

There are plenty of discussions on it already! Brownie points to you!
I don't understand, maybe cos i'm british, but why is everyone so down on him? He seems pretty good to me and better than al lot of the others. Plus just standing up and being the first was a risky, challenging move and it did unite a lot of people.
I'm not going to get any further involved as i don't know a lot about it! I'm only saying that here cos its not a "serious" politics discussion and i hope i'm not going to get bombarded by anti-obamites, i have no protection here!

I think so, but there is some genuine hysteria going on. He's a muslim. He's not a citizen. etc. And people believe this stuff...

I'm not down on him, more like cautiously optimistic. But the entire right wing over here has gone totally ballistic...

I've not noticed! (WINK WINK) Its mental! anyone would think he'd sexually assaulted a puppy the way people treat him, let alone a guy doing a bloody difficult job of sorting out the mess he inherited and trying his hardest. Whatever he does has gotta be better than what came before!

I just read the news...and I am truly confused. I thought it took alot to win that prize not just projecting speeches that someone else has basically written for you....anyway......I won't even project if you should be dressed to kill....like in a flak jacket.....LoL.....I'll give you kudos for a heads up on how many discussions that will result from this.....

Hi dawnald,
I have not come across any discussion about that but I have heard it on the news, maybe people are getting fed up of it all to put it up on discussion, though I may wrong.

One he did not deserve. But that the end of the day we really can't do anything about it. We don't control who gets it. But all I can say is somebody got robbed....like the people who were in the running against him.
But on to your point....yep there are going to be a lot discussions on this on mylot. It is going to be a free for all. And none of it on Obama's side. Because even the dems know he did not do anything to deserve it so it is really hard if not impossible for them to take up for him.

It seems from the explanation I found that they awarded it to him based on potential. In which case, Michelle Kwan and Kurt Browning should have Olympic gold medals for what they were capable of doing instead of what they have for what they actually did.

You can be silly and I can be silly. However, the USA view their President the fact is that the rest of he world recognise something in him - that he really is working for peace in the world.
I do not think that the USA citizens realise how the world views this man. How they want him to succeed at world peace. Out side of the USA he is considered a great world leader and the world recognises that he cannot achieve that much in a few years. But they see his potential and WANT him to succeed.
Our bundle of brightness - the one that is our leader - guess what he did? Stood up in Parliament and announced that "We are too Blessed to be Stressed".
Our country would love to swap him for Mr. Obama any day.

"that he really is working for peace in the world."
Perhaps you could elaborate on this? what spcificly has he done to these ends, where has he done them, what plans, agreaments, treaties, and such and with whom?
Just being "liked" by the world and just "wanting someone to suceed at world peace", does not equal one being a great peacemaker, it just makes him someone that the world has a lot of hope for, and that alone does not make peace, nor does it make someone deserving of a peace prize.

I want him to succeed too. I just feel like maybe the Nobel committee may have given him the award based on potential rather than actual achievements.
But the discussion wasn't really about whether he deserved the award anyway. More about how many discussions we were going to see on the topic.
Here's some fruit, so I hope you find yourself a parrot!

You are right there. The world does have hope and it is him that the world is looking forward to. anytime you want to swap - we have one to give you and then you really would have problems. Perhaps it would be good foir us all to watch the ceeremony and see why he was chosen befoe saying that he is not worthy.
@Dawn. See? I told you that you would get me into trouble.
And here I was - all happy and contented until I got blasted. I am not going to respond to your Friday's posts as they always get me into trouble.
Ah well, I am going out into the garden to look under the trees to see if a parrot has fallen from its nest etc etc etc.

It seems in politics I just read, because I do not understand about what they were doing there. If I discuss there, the air will become increasingly hot and needed double anti-bullet. You're not silly but sometimes. Where I put my anti-bullet, oh there is it.

To bad myLot's glitch in posting non repliable discussions messed up your bet. Still some managed to sneak theirs in before the glitch took over. I've had 'Obama bashing' withdrawal symptoms all night last night and now this morning too! So much to say and very little opportunity to say it......!!!

Withdrawal symptoms, lol, maybe you should go spend some time with your grandkids until this passes. :-)
I agree with you about worshipers. If you can't look at a politician, ANY politician, whether you like them or dislike them, and assess what they've done on its own merits, you're too biased to make a fair assessment. Worshiper on the one side, what shall we call the opposite?

I've read some discussions from SUPPORTERS who question this decision.
That to me is interesting.
Those who disagree with ANY comment from 'the right' about Obama may take note...it is very revealing when you continue to support all things Obama-ish when even his staunch supporters will disagree.
It makes them look like the 'worshipers' we've said they are. I am much more willing to consider what an honest supporter says, if when they see the wrongness of something, they are brave enough to say so.
I at least then can understand it just may be a difference of opinion and actually listen when they present their arguments in favor of Obama.

''for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people,''
Does the definition of 'international diplomacy' have anything to do with 'my countrymen are all azzholes and please please like me in spite of that.'? Does the definition of 'cooperation between people' mean we'll do anything you like if you'll promise to like me'?

Well it is my opinion that he does not deserve the honor and certainly didn't earn it. I am in the UK and there was an article in our morning paper today and it showed disgust for him being honoured. It also said that he will get £900,000 as well - thats almost 1 1/2 million dollars. He said he would give it to charity. Wonder if he will give it to his crooked favourite charity ACORN. He should give to the US Treasury to help pay for his ridiculous Stimulus.

You definitely called it! All I've been seeing this weekend are MyLot folk pretty much COMPLAINING that Obama got the award - or asking people what THEY think with an angry undertone (for example, I loved this one: "Do you think Obama deserved a nobel peace prize?" and then the next sentence would be - "Do you think this prize has lost all meaning?"). It seems like EVERYONE has a negative opinion on this event; and they intend on showing around here at myLot. I don't really have a strong opinion either way, and so I tend to avoid these discussions where the starter CLEARLY has an AGENDA - and clearly is willing to argue to get his or her point across. I steer away from it. Anyway, I've already seen close to 5 or 6, and I haven't really been active here lately due to all the problems MyLot's been having. But I imagine more and more are going to spring up, because apparently it has upset many people here.

I actually didn't know anything about it until I saw about 5 discussion topics talking about it and I thought it was another joke somebody started. But then I flipped over to the news and there he was.. I responded to one of them and didn't feel the need to respond to the others.
By they way I captured the blue rabbit and cooked him for dinner last night!
mmmmm... rabit stew is soooooooo delicious!
Oh and you're allowed to be silly anytime... I think it would be odd if you weren't silly
