Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize - too soon or unfair?

Wait a minute...just when I woke up I heard that President Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize, but there's someting that didn't make sense. He's been in office for over 9 months, and if I remember correctly, the NPP goes to those who made significant benefits for the good of humanity.
For people like the Dalai Lama, who wasn't invited to the White House, it takes years to earn that type of prize, and the guy's been in office for over 9 months now. He's just getting started this year! Just because you're famous doesn't mean you automatically get a gold medal. It takes a certain somehing other than fame or fortune to earn a prize like that, that certain something that makes the bad things worth the good. I have to say that either it's too soon for him to get the gold, or it's unfair to more deserving, more worthy candidates.
How about you? Do you think that it's too early, too soon for him to get the reward, or if it's unfair as I stated earlier?
