Announcement of your private information on ICQ

On 6th of Oct,My GF and I made engagement.We both felt very happy for that.But yesterday,she asked me to modify my private information on ICQ and announcement our engagement to all of my friends.I refused that requirement because I think it is inappropriate to make your private information known by everyone.
So,Do you think what I can do?Is it appropriate to put your private information on ICQ or other chat softwares?
