Have you ever put your private information on Internet?

Several days ago,my GF and I made engagement and both of us felt very happy about that.Yesterday,she asked me to put that information in my QQ-a famous chat software in China.I refused because I think it's overly precious or nice to put your private information and announcement of your own happy publicly. So,do you think it's appropriate to do that?
