Has anyone ever had a long distance relationship before?

My boyfriend and I have been in a long distance relationship for over 2 years. The actual time we have spent together in person is probably around 7 months. He lives in the Netherlands, so we rely on the internet, mostly skype, to keep our relationship alive. Has anyone else done this, and can you share your experiences? Did the relationship last? Is the internet a good enough medium to keep it going?
