Imitating others's success wether or not to be successful?

from the television or internet i realize that many developing country imitate developed country ,which includs production ,technology,management methods,ect.but from the shot series programm ,about 50years ago ,it said that japan imitated America's development methods ,at first japan get some success ,but different country has different culture and custom ,and japanese president was killed by others who donot agree to reform . In addition,some people create a new production and aplly the patent ,at the later time ,others find it is a profitable production,and imitate the production and then the creator loss many profit .so what do you think about the two questions.
