Has Society Become Oversensitive?

I am wondering while our society is losing respect towards people, have we also become oversenstive? Like if you say something and your simply talking to your friend or relative and someone outside the party hears it and get offended. Or if someone makes a joke to someone and a person outside the group gets offended even though the joke wasn't meant towards them and it wasn't racist or sexist but still they get offended.
