My Favorite Cousin

I flew down to Los Angeles on Saturday for a family party. My Aunt Terri is moving back to New York and I wanted to say goodbye. There was a gathering at my cousin Bernie's house in Fontana, so I flew into Ontario airport. I managed to get a front row seat, so I was first off the plane. I'm not familiar with Ontario airport as I usually fly in and out of Burbank and occasionally LAX so I took a wrong turn looking for the rental car shuttles. Because of that, I missed a few buses before I got to the rental center. Which was a good thing. I had booked a compact car and when I got out to the lot, somebody was driving off with the last compact, and another person was driving off with the last mid-size. So the nice lady on the lot told me to take a full size. Once I figured out how to start the thing (no key, put foot on brake and push start button - it was the put foot on brake part that escaped me), it was less than a 10 mile drive, so the car was kind of wasted on me. Oh well!
Got to Bernie's and Aunt Terri was there with her son Richard, daughter Glenna and Richard's daughter Cass. My Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Jack were there also. In addition to Bernie, her husband and four kids, two of Sylvia's other kids showed up with their families, Andres and Brande. They were the last set of twins in the family until I had my twins.
I had a good day with the family, but was sorry I wasn't able to bring my family with me. I took a lot of pictures though, which you can see at:

Brande's son Jack was doing the shy routing when they first got there. So I did the hand spider thing and pretty soon he was out of his shell and bashing and smashing the hand spider with his fist. (ouch)
The funniest moment was when Cass was picking on Aunt Sylvia because she's "so old". So I said, "hey she's not that much older than I am." And Cass says, "But she's 57." "Yep and I'm less than 6 years younger than her!" Shocked expression. "Wow, I thought you were in your 30's." Kid knows how to melt a person's heart. She is now my favorite cousin.
The New York cousins still owe me a visit though. They never did get to Sacramento. Now that their mom doesn't live in California any more, I wonder if it will really happen. But hey, Glenna's talking about a New York reunion and I do want to get the kids back there and South Carolina to meet people. So watch out Holly, I may actually get to meet you in person!

Family. We just can't do without them, can we. I always have this notion that the more, the merrier. It's so cool that you have a favorite cousin. I think cousins, relatives and whatnot are important in our lives. It's like an extension of us, and they are like the colors of the rainbow. Though there can be fights and stuff, but the family bond is always there. So cool that you are having all these happy moments, Dawn..

Some people know just what to say, right? It looks as though you had a great time. I saw the photos, thanks for sharing them, it looked like a very warm atmosphere and all were enjoying themselves. It’s nice to catch up with family. I have an uncle coming over from Venezuela to visit us in Australia; I haven’t seen him in years and I am looking forward to his arrival. I have so much to say to him so I will probably say nothing! (LOL)

At least in this day and age, if you're separated from your family, there's a chance you'll see them again and there are other ways to stay in touch. Imagine the people who crossed the ocean 100+ years ago and all they had were letters, if even that!

Oh wow what a blast! Gotta love those ones that just know how to melt ya huh?
It has been years since my family has had a get together. We really should and I've been mentioning to people for the past couple of years that it would be great, the problem is my family has never really known how to be a family.
I bet new york will be a blast, like you said above though just make sure it's not in January, but you also don't want to go in mid August either too darned hot then! Mid June would be a good time I reckon.

Problem is that my son is in special education and he is eligible for "extended school year" and usually that starts immediately after the school year ends. So we have the end of July, the beginning of August and breaks in November, December and March.

I'm sure the best time to go weather-wise will not be the best timing as relates to school breaks either. Oh well...

Any relatives/reunions in Australia Dawn?
I'd tell you that you look in your 30s if it made ME your favourite!

I wish I did have relatives there, and Australia is definitely on my list of places I'd love to visit. Paul McCartney hasn't sent me that money yet though!

It does sound like a great time, and the 'melt your heart' part is really great! Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip. My sister used to live in Ontario, and I have cousins in Riverside and Ontario, but I don't see them much lately, with me being so far away!

We still get down there a couple of times a year, but more and more people keep moving away!
