Well winter is upon us here in Minnesota and the calendar still says ity's fall. The temps have been in the 20's and 30;s at night. highs in the 40's. And today (Monday) we got 2 inches of snow so far. Yesterday (Sunday) my wife and I did the winter preps for our gardens, flower beds, lawn, garage, and tools etc for the upcoming winter. This photo shows my wife in her sweatshirt and glovers mowing the back yard. Is your yard, etc ready for the winter season yet?

I just started a discussion about seeing the forecast and it having snow for the Northern Parts of the USA. We haven't prepared our yard yet though! Almanac says not much snow for us down here in the south!

That's a great picture, she looks way too young for you in that photo!
My yard is mowed and I need to take the hose into the garage but I can't get it off the hose bib. I'll have to get some pliers or something. Otherwise, I'm all ready. I have supplies in case I lose power or can't leave the house for a week or so--which happened last year because they don't plow or salt the side streets here, we can't afford it anymore. I have to buy tires, too.

I leave the mulch down until spring actually.
Protect the plants all winter that way.
Got my snowblower running.
Not in use but running and ready.

I was in a break mode.
I did my share as the gardens and flowers and garage are my tasks.

Grandpa Bob
We are living in my mother-in-law yard in a camper for the moment. Hubby just got back to work and we are looking for a place to rent. We did take a look at the yard here yesterday and it was just too wet to mow. I can't believe that you already got snow. Is that normal for your all to get snow this early of the year? Here in KY ours don't hit until about DEC.

We usually don't get 2 inches or more on average until
November 25th. But Halloween day 1991 we got a record
49 inches in a 24 hour span. Cities were closed for a
few days from that HUGE storm. I loved it too. Made a
lot of cash pulling people from ditches as I had a
4X4 truck at that time.

WOW..I guess I have never paid no attention to what other states get. I know that we got the big ice storm last year which was totally out the norm for us. I love the snow and I think it is so pretty. In a way I guess Im ready for some..No wait let me get out of this camper first...LOL

That is good to hear. We have been working really hard on our yard and home also to get it ready for the wintertime too. We still have more to do on it though. It has been cold here also and I need to cut the grass one more time.

I trimmed back the forsythia and hibiscus last week. Would you believe there was one forsythia blossom? It was like a gift.

WOW! I was complaining because the beautiful 80 degree weather just went down to the 50's and 60's. You got 20's??!! I was dreading winter, because so far the autumn has been really nice. We haven't gotten out yard done yet. We are waiting a bit on that. I did get the garden tore down, but I still have other things to put away for the nasty winter we are supposed to get.....hmmm....maybe it will be 75 degrees all winter! What do you say? Oh and by the way, the mailman said that the rental car guy was my dad LOL!!

nope it's not ready I am afriad. I first need my hubby to dig up the septic so we can get it drained. But he hasn't the motivation to do it & it needs to get done since we are 5 mo's behind getting it done.
I wanted to put the patio set away or covered and that hasn't been done yet. But I dunno if we have warmer days ahead of us still before the true winter snows come or what? They say 60's I think this weekend so I'm sure you can expect a warm up by you.

I would say yes, most of the yard itself is pretty much ready for our next season. I spent one day a week this summer doing stuff back there because I wasnt happy with all the work I had done back there through the years since we moved in and I had been pulling stuff out and filling in dirt patches and getting seed, etc for things I am going to need next year.
I am hoping to do well with some of my sites this winter to save up some money to put towards our yard next year... I really want it to look nice next year!!
Our temps here in Michigan have dropped and it feels alot like winter more than fall as well -- so when we get a good warmer day I can then cut down the plants in the front yard --not that big of an area-- and get that ready as well.
Happy mylotting!!

Yeath,it becomes cold and we begin to wear more clothes and we begin to buy more Autumn and Winter clothes. What more,it is necessary to do more pratices to keep heathy and energective. As you know,we become more and more weak, especially the students in school. For they do endure more burden. What' more, sttdents in school have to study in school.
So in my opinine,it is not late to do some prepatatin for the cold winter.

Yes, our yard is all ready for the winter. My hubby mowed the yard the other day and unhooked all the garden hoses for the winter. He also pulled out all the tomato and green pepper plants.
I am so glad we dont have any snow yet. we been getting light rain and drizzle. the car windows had frost on them the other day.

You are so lucky to be living in your part of the world where you get to see snow and so forth. Maybe the cold isn't that attractive though. I'm living in London and well winter should be setting in now but there's no sign of it as yet. I'm thinking that this is another global warming issue! I have not used my electric heaters in a long time and I'm not sure I will need them anytime soon! I do like winter though and I really wish that we could experience some snow like you guys across the pond! I love this scene, picture this: cold and snowy outside, the wind blowing against the window, a hot mug of tea in my hands and a good book that I am escaping into! I can't create this without that winter weather though. Oh well! Andrew

I live in India and we don't get snow fall here. The temperature seldom falls to 10'C and that too in the night. You guys are lucky to be able to enjoy yourselves in the snow. May be due to global warming and climatic changes I will soon be able to see snow even in my place, we never know. I usually go and buy some jackets and over coats that will last me for this winter. Nothing in particular. I will be waiting for Christmas though.

I do not have a garden or plants anymore. So my yard is ready for winter. I have shut the water to the faucets out side. All we need to do is drain the hose and put it up for the winter.

Hello granpa bob.
Well sad to say we don't have winter season here in the Philippines. What we are experiencing lately are floods and storms. I am a fan of snowflakes yet our country doesn't have one. I am sure it's going to be cold since the temperature is going down and BER months are in. You are lucky to experience that season. Hope i could experience it too someday! Happy winter!

My cousin who lives in Minnesota reported on his FaceBook wall yesterday that it started snowing there; and that it was most unexpected. He was all set to enjoy an unexpected break and make the most of a lazy Monday morning, when he found snow in the backyard. That meant no more lazy Monday morning. That meant he had to start preparing the place for winter.
It's new for me - this idea of preparing for a particular season. Having lived on a desert island most of my life, which meant enjoying almost the same temperate climate all through the year, this concept of preparing for different seasons is new for me. And interesting. Hmmm...
Anyway, good luck with your prep for the cold and hope you have a beautiful winter ahead!
