We do NOT earn by using Private Messages.
We earn by posting quality discussions which are within the Guidelines and by responding on other discussions and by commenting to responses.
Private Messages can be used to contact other users with queries about myLot instead of posting a discussion which would be deleted if it was something already answered in the FAQS and to send links to friends.
We also learn by uploading photos not covered by copyright and by completing tasks.
Adding friends could/should cause you to receive responses on your started discussions but it is a two way thing because you should also return the favour by responding on theirs. You will not earn from their responses but you have the chance to comment back and earn from doing that.

When you see 500 by your username you can upload photos in responses and comments.
Until then you can only upload them when you start discussions if they are relevant to the discussion and not covered by copyright.
Personal photos should be uploaded to your profile but will not earn for you.

You do not earn anything for adding friends. But considering that your friends see links to the discussions that their friends started on their home tab, and can opt to get emails about new discussions that their friends start, you definitely want to consider adding some friends. I have actually made real friends here. And there are times that you may want to consider adding friends just so you can send private messages to one another. There are definitely benefits to adding friends, despite the fact that you do not earn immediately (directly) for adding them.

Adding friends at Mylot didn't get to earn anything unless you participate in your friends' discussions.
Morgandrake is telling you something useful, there are many benefits by adding friends at Mylot!
If you concern about to earn more at Mylot, try to give your comments back to all the responses you receive from your discussions. Every reply you write please be as descriptive as possible and write at least 3 full lines please. Just look at your reply at this post, 1 line or 2 lines post didn't earn you anything. A word of thank you too earn nothing.

Normally what I would do is to add friends whom I find interesting; because their discussions strike me as something that I'd like to answer more in future. And say they accept me too, they can also choose to answer mine. So I earn in that sense. So directly, you won't earn by adding friends but what I've explained to you might be an earner.
And private messaging is a form of communication between friends individually privately. Has nothing to do with earning too. Hope this helps yeah. And welcome to mylot.

While you do not earn anything directly by adding friends, I like to think of Mylot as a place for friends to not only gather, socialize and share but also as a place for friends to help friends earn a little extra money. Hopefully the friends that you acquire will try to respond to your discussions or comment on your responses and then both you and the friend are mutually rewarded. You earn on your own quality participation here I think, so having friends and helping each other keep interesting and quality discussions batting back and forth should help you earn indirectly. My thoughts on this might be wrong but even so, I like the idea of friends helping friends.
