30, overweight, smoker and hating it.

I'm really starting to hate my life due to being overweight. I am about 80lbs overweight and it's really starting to affect me more and more in my daily life. I have a hard time at work due to this, while it's an active job, it's just not helping me to lose anything. I smoke, I know it doesn't help, but I fell off the wagon a few weeks ago, and am just waiting for the financial situation to return to normal so I can quit using the patch. I have hit a brick wall and don't know what to do anymore about my weight. Diets and pills don't work, and it's clearly not a thyroid problem. Any suggestions?

It's all psychologically possible. It's unhealthy, so try not to take medicine to solve your problem. Besides, we are from nature, thus a natural way produces the optimal result. 1st: Love life. Enjoy while it lasts. 2nd: To quit smoking: Use a substitute. e.g. Coffee. Whenever you need to smoke, drink coffee (yes it's unhealthy but is better than smoking. Gum. Many scientists prove this method as working. 3rd: Usually overweight is affected by the foods you eat. Eat a healthy meal:consisting veggie, meat, grain, fruits. Avoid junk food and you will be fine. 4th: Body check and have a buddy reminder (a stubborn one) He can remind you and keep you on track. Be very wise in choosing one. Choose one that is always around you and is very stubborn is doing right. BTW: Go body check for any health problems from that wagon fall.

yes that is a sad situation but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be frustrated with his own situation..and he has to be..obesity and smoking are two partners in crimes which hand in hand cause countless number of diseases...and if he has a family history of anything..then if there is anything to count is his calorie intake.

Setting your mind to it is the first step. You have to tell yourself that you WILL do it and then just do it. It's not easy. You need to eat healthy foods - fresh fruits and veggies, no prepackaged junk. Also, ya gotta throw in some exercise. Even getting out of bed 30 minutes early every morning to take a walk around the block is a great start. Good Luck!

I saw him in August, and I had started a food log, but nothing came of it. Winter will be hardest on me since I shovel snow and there isn't enough of that to keep me active daily.

The best way I know to lose weight is not to eat and that works wonders for me when I do it. I have a paunch and whenever I don't eat much or just once for the day my stomach automatically starts to go down. Once it went so far down my belt couldn't keep my trousers up as well as before and that became a problem because I was getting too thin. You need to eat only one full meal a day and all the other times just snack lightly, with the accent on light, to keep going until your full meal. Also try walking or swiming. That exercise is essential. Don't worry so much about smoking. I smoke about fifty cigs a day and have been smoking for over 40 years and have no ill effects. Eat less and exercise.

The least thing you could do for now is to make up your mind. It always takes one step at a time. :D

Instead of complaining, why not starting to love yourself more? Diet pills and diet programs wont really work if you are not a positive thinker. Set you mind with goals and enjoy every bit of your life. Negative thinking may help you hate more and more about your life. Start it with a smile. Be patient and I know you can do it if you are determined on what you want to do with your life. I know this is hard to do. I can just say it to everyone and you can just tell us whatever you have in mind. But trust me. Just be positive and focus on things you want to change. Exercise not only your body but your mind. It will all be clear. :) Learn to say NO to the things you know that it's not good for you. I know you can do it!

I know it is tough. I know that eating healthy and smaller portions help as well as plenty of excersise &drinking lots of water. I'm sure you know all that also. I am currently reading and almost done with a book called, "Losing It" by Valerie Bertinelli. What a great and inspiring book. It is not just about her battle to lose weight and to keep it off. She goes a little deeper into the problem of why she just could not lose it and keep it off. I hope you read it if you haven't already. I think you could be really inspired by it. Good luck.

Sometimes the more you think about your weight the worse it gets if you are eating healthy and exercising then the reason could be you are stressed about it which sets all hormones racing you need to feel more positive, and unless you have had your thyroid tested then you will not know if it is that, I suffer from an under active thyroid and until it gets really bad you do not know you need more medication, have a blood test to find out and relax more also quit smoking you will be much better off with you finances. I gave up a 60 a day habit over 7 years ago and have not looked back since.

I definitely relate to your situation. I have a lot of weight to lose too, and itis hard. But to say something you really don't want to hear - the solution to weight loss, for most people (and I do think its MOST people - yes there are exceptions, and people have varying rates of weight loss depending) is eat less and exercise. I say this with the utmost compassion for you, I have been overweight a long time, and tried all manner of diets etc - they don't work, because I give up. I can blame the books, the pills or whatever, but its me. I have now been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Please help yourself before you get to this stage. I wish I was simply overweight and needing to lose it now, without the diabetes. It adds a whole new level of stress to the whole thing, believe me! I also had bulimia for about ten years. I am now losing, slowly, and bringing my blood sugar down to a normal level. Some things that are helping me - 1. Knowing why I was eating. For me, it is an addictive thing, I used food to deal with feelings and I realized I turned to it as a comforter in childhood to deal with a family situation and it stayed as a habit and a way of dealing with stuff as an adult. The bulimia, I think, was anger with my mother taken out on myself because no one believed me and there was nowhere to put those feelings. 2. Making a plan - in the evenings I plan what to eat the next day, to make me eat proper meals. 3. Exercise - I had to find something I liked or I wouldn't keep it up. I swim every day, Monday to Friday. I also walk a lot, usually listen to music while I walk. 4. Being creative - this one depends on whether thats something that relates to you. Some of my outlets and alternatives to eating, and things to make me feel I am doing something that is for me, are drawing, writing, and singing. For you it may be other stuff. 5. Let someone know you are struggling. If you have someone you trust let them know you are trying to do this, for support. Don't choose someone who will be the 'diet police' or who will have no patience with you, but do fond some support. If there is no one an online forum can be good, I use one for my diabetes. Good luck! Please know it can get better, I am starting to see it myself and it took me a long time to get here, but it is possible.

according to my doctor im 115lbs overweight but because its from working out alot im healthier then most. you say you have an active job. For somereason i find it hard to believe that it can be really that active. Its possible that your eating more calories then your burning in an 8 hour time period. here is some tips and tricks. First stay away from the vending machines unless your buying a vegtable tray. Dont drink soda. Bring a lunch from home you can make a simple healthy lunch with a juice or some water. Water drink lots of water i repeat water drink lots of water. Eat a healthy breakfast people tend to forget breakfast. By eating a healthy breakfast you can control hunger alot better throughout the day. do a small workout before work maybe a brisk walk or some active stretching it will help set the pace for the day and youll feel alot better. well hope it helps a little

I think you can try to consult an psychologist or you can read some psychological books yourself, it may help. I'm now learning psychology. I know that some people who are addicted to smoking is because when they are young (0-2years old) their "mouth appetiteā€œ(I don't know how to say the tech term, for the book i read is in chinese) wasn't satisfied. When children are 0-2 years old , they will try to experience the world with the help of mouth. If you observe some kids at this age, then you will find them like to put every thing they can grab into their mouth. But it is a natural thing. However, some parents forbid their kids to do that then the development of this part will be stopped. Those kids if they are boys are very possible to become addicted to smoking or drinking, while girls may become very gossipy. So you can ask your parents how is your situation when you are young. As for overweight, I think it is caused by your stress, self-hatred, and anger. You should be more aware of your inner feelings. You know sometimes we are afraid to be face to face with our true self. I also eat a lot of things before especially when i was upset, angry or under great stress. So i went to find a psychological doctor for help. And i get a better understanding of myself. I become more tranquil in my mind and then my problems goes. Through your words, I feel unsatisfaction you have about yourself. I was the same before. But latter i learn I must accept the truth that I'm unsatisfied with myself. And after I accept I feel better. Remember negative emotions are kind of energy ,you should let it flow naturally .Then it may come sometimes, but it will go.

Hi kris182_2000, I quit smoking 3 years and 65 lbs. ago...I am totally a stress eater so take away my smokes and my appetite became that of a lumberjack or I should say a football tackle [more of my body shape].... Whatever you decide to do...please do it now; though it's never too late...trust me [I'm 45] it gets harder to change with every year that passes. I've been on every diet, diet pill and diet plan there is....Nutrisystem worked faily quick; however...it's not only expensive...but as soon as you try to add in "regular" food...it all comes back on [and for me an extra 20 lbs. to boot]. I'm still about 60 pounds from my long-term goal. I have begun a system of changing my eating habits it's called "Food Lovers Fat Loss" and was developed by Dr. Robert Ferguson. All the learning materials are about $80.00, but they let me make four monthly $19.99 payments. I have learned [I'm in day 30 today] that eating small meals or snacks every two or three hours has been the hardest life change for me. I would skip breakfast...salad at work....then eat twice what my husband eats at dinner. Eating every 2 or 3 hours keeps your metabolism [gas tank] fueled up and your body eventually trains itself that food will ALWAYS be coming in a bit...so it no longer stores what you eat as fat. Any way I know I'm blabbing on...but please hang in there...if this mother of three puberty ridden teens and five dogs that is going through the "change" herself, not to mention her husband is a long distance truck driver and only comes home 2 or 3 days a month....can make a life change...you can too...I promise. Please keep in touch if you need someone to talk to...and never give up or beat yourself up for falling off the wagon in any way...we are all human...and tomorrow is another day to make the right choices.

i used to be a nutritionist at a gym before going to medschool and iv seen a lot of "but nothing works" comments but when you dissect the person..you realize that they have bad diet habits and little fat burning physical activity...so if you don't mind..give me a typical diet of yours for one day ... why don't you join a gym and start doing some serious carido exercise? and by serious i dont mean run a marathon..but something that really makes u sweat ....remember when you do a cardio exercise you need to do it for atleast 40 mins to see fat burning..anything less than 40 mins is mostly carbs... as for smoking..well that comes down to your own willingness and will power...just quit it and start chewing on nicotine gum..i know its easier said than done..but there is no way around it..you just have to make a decision and stick to it...best of luck :)
