There is always a bottle of gums lying on the desk if you walked by my office desk. I will feel drowsy in the afternoon that I need the extra things to refresh my brain.
Chewing gums becomes a daily habit in my life otherwise my brain can not work well. Somebody will chose the coffee to refresh their brain.
How about you? Are you feeling drowsy in the afternoon? Will you take serveral cups of coffee to keep you brain working? Or just like me, will you prefer the gums to continue? Share your comments here.

It may be weird, but I do both actually. My brain works like a computer. Coffee in the mornings is the like the BIOS in a computer that "starts" my brain up. I only drink coffee early morning and not again during the day. Chewing gum performs the `F5 function` of refreshing my brain that keeps me on te move and concentrating. I do about a packet of gum a day. Sometimes though I accidently swallow the gum when I am really concentrating to hard, hehe.

Hello, Sasalove, I seldom feel drowsy in the afternoon as I always take nap at noon time. On the contrary, quite often, I feel drowsy in the morning as I have a baby son to take care at night, and I need to feed him for at least twice at night. The way for me to refresh is keeping busying, I go mylot whenever I have time. I like neither coffee nor gums, I do not like coffee's taste, and while I chew a gum, I am afraid that I may swallow it if my mind are concentrated on other things.
Thank you for your post and have a nice day.

Hi Sasalove:
That is true, I feel very tired since my son come to live us about twenty days ago.
He is very very naughty, who keep me busying all the time I back home. Sometimes, he is not willing to go to bed, he can stay up till half past ten and still wake up twice at night. It make me really exhausted. Without the nap at noon time, I can hardly go on the day...
Anyway, I feel I am really happy when being with my son... I am even thinking of quit my job and taking care of him full time...
Have a nice day too.

Hi Karen,
That is why I would like to say, " Mother is the greatest career in the world". It is not easy to raise a kid to be an adult, particularly for those period that the kids did not have the strong sense to protect themselves.
If you kid is a boy, your task seems to be more severe as the boy will be more naughty than the girl uh~~
Hope that your kid can grow up happily.

Hi Karen,
It is very tired to raise a kid uh~~
I have a habit to take a nap in the noon, but sometimes I can not fall asleep out of the short time breaking. Sometimes when I am in the mess of the multi-project, though I take a nap, but without the refreshing gums, it seems that I am still absent-minded.
Have a nice day.

I´m a coffee drinker. I haven´t chewed gum since I was a kid. I used to smoke too but I quit a year and a half ago as I couldn´t afford them.

I used to drink the coffee, but since from somebody advised to me that drinking too much coffee is bad for skin, I seldom drank the coffee for beauty purpose. I wonder if it make sense, but just do it.
Do you think smoking will refresh the brain? It is better for your health to quit smoking as it really hurts the lung.

Yup, drinking tea is a good healthy cultivation here. One of my friends drinks tea called Tieh-kuan-Yin daily, he advised he will feel uncomfortable if he did not do it.
There is another secret for the tea as it can lessen the cholesterol, in another sense, it can lose weight.

People from our area like tea. They drink tea the whole day, not only when they feel thirsty, but whenever when they have time, and whenever visitor comes. I guess they must drink up to ten or more everyday. So I think five to six cups of coffee is not that much. Anyway, coffee is not good for health, we should try best to control it... So does drink too much of tea...

I prefer not to drink coffee when I am a little sleepy. Its not that I do not like coffee, but its just that when I feel sleepy, most of the time it is because I did not have enough sleep yesterday, and drinking coffee makes me feel stressed and forced to be awake. I am more into drinking hot chocolate or tea, sometimes eating. After knowing what you do, I feel like trying chewing a gum to refresh my brain, but I think chewing gum will make me hungry. hehe. I remember that one of my professor told us that it is better to chew a gum when you need to stay awake.

I guess it's a healthier approach to take chewing gums rather than coffee, right?
I was quite addicted to coffee, and I definitely prefer coffee over chewing gum. I always like to drink coffee to refresh my mind, even though I am not sleepy. I had the habit of drinking a cup of coffee before I started working, I felt refreshed and it seemed like a "sign" saying, "Ok, start work after this nice coffee." I usually only drink one cup of coffee a day in the morning, but try not to drink any in the afternoon though I feel drowsy, as I heard that too much coffee is not good for health.

When I need to wake up or concentrate, I just drink something cold. It doesn't really have to be sweet or have some specific ingredient, it just needs to be cold. I can't even drink coffee or energy drinks, because I have an extremely low caffeine tolerance and they make me shaky and manic! Oh and gum makes me bloated... :S

I use ginger tea to warm up my body and microsleep to refresh my brain. You can do microsleep yourself. Just sit on your chair, relax, close your eyes, try to imagine something soothing in the eye of your mind, and focus on that and you will go to sleep soon, but don't go to sleep fully, let your hearings still functional. After 5-10 minutes you'll wake up and feel refreshed.
Some people have even suggested polyphasic sleep: you only sleep 3-4 hours a day total and spread in 15-20 minutes of microsleep. I have never tried this, and I don't know if I can try this.

It is a familar method that our teachers always told us to do in my campus., but after graduation from campus, I seldom take this way to refresh my mind. It is inconvenient to take that way as I will suffer complaint from my management.
Truely it is a healthy and cost-efficient way to refresh your mind.LOL.
