Do you switch on or off the lights in the house?
I have a reason of asking, as I noticed there are my neighbours who will switch off all their lights if they are not at home, and it makes the surroundings even darker. And for my aunt, she will leave some lights on if she is away, and informed the neighbours about her leaving the house.
What about you? which will you do?

Dear cwong77,
Oh yes, we will 'On' the lights if we are away. This is a good
practice. Last time we even get the timer for the lights to be
'on' at night and 'off' day time. It can be set
I too inform my neighbours if I am going away for holidays.
This will enable our neighbours be on a 'lookout' for us.

Iriene, glad to know you have good relationship with your neighbours ya..
you know what.. my friend actually share a theory with me..
If we have the lights on, and no cars in the house, the thief also smart to know there is nobody at home.. and with all the lights on, they can ransack the house easily..
On the other hand, if the lights are off, and once there is a light from the house, the neighbours will know that something not right.. and keep a look out of it.
So, what do you think?

I know most Chinese always worry or should I say they are worry too much when they are away from home . They let the lights on so to pretend they are people inside. They afraid if they leave the house dark and stranger will target their house for break in .
Some people who leave in condo or apartment even leave many shoes especially man shoes at the door steps when they are actually no one at home.

I tend to have a friend that comes over and do all the lights as well as the blinds as they also have to feed all my pets as well as move the junk mail for me.They turn the lights on when it start getting dark then my mum turns the lights off when she is about to go to bed as she only lives over the road.

jugsjugs.. how nice of your friend..
I did that too for my cousin, when she travels back to Holland with her hub. She will give me her house key, and I just pop over in the night to switch on the lights and feed her fish.
good to have someone staying around our house ya..

hi cwong77 we always left several lights on so that
people would think we were home, and any burglars
would just pass the house by. The cost of electricity
was worth it to save our peace of mind and save us
from being victims of a robbery.

Hi Cwong,
It is best not to switch off your house lights when you are away for a few days as it is easily attract the thief to come in.
Dark house at night means nobody is at home,it is a good chance for thief to visit your house.
For me, I never leave my house in dark.Always on at least one light from inside the house and for the gate, also have 2 lights on.
Frankly speaking, I am scared of darkness ,but I always off my bedroom's light when I go to bed because my husband is with me in the bedroom.
