Do you tip

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and she was venting about a group of people leaving really crappy tips. She was to the point of tears. After I hung up with her I began to remember all the times that I worked my butt off serving people for them only to leave me crappy tips. I stopped serving because of that reason. So here is my question do you or do you not tip and why. I look forward to hearing your responses.

I tip based on the service. If the service is good, I leave between 15 and 20 percent. If it is exceptional I leave over 20. If it the service is crappy I leave a crappy tip.

Thats decent. thats the way some people do it, and thats how I do it. when I was serving I was a good server, not trying to be conceited but I was. I even had my own customers that always had my schedule b/c they would only eat when I worked and would only take me as their server. I wish everyone thought like you.

yes I do tip when I dine in at a resurant. How much I tip depends on the number of persons being served. I typicaly tip $1.oo for myself and and one more $1.00 for each person if I pay for the meal. I use to work for tips myself and I do undersand how your frined feels.

I"m cheap so no flaming here folks. Usually 10% if the server was ok. More based on the service being exceptional. And NONE + a complaint to the manager if the service was AWFUL!

Yes, I (we) always tip. usually close to 20% or sometimes more. we go to a lot of the same restaurants and have become real friendly with most of our waitresses and know almost all of them by name. So we know how hard they work to make a few bucks.

Yes, I give tip for a wonderful service but no tip for people who serve poorly especially for server who are so unfriendly. I also work hard for my money and I really want to share it to those who are also committed to their work.

if i know i will not have much for a tip then i do not bother the waitress. I just order and pay so she does not have to do too much. This does not happen often though.

I tip 20% or more. If it's okay service, I leave 20%, because the person still worked for the money. If it's bad service, I'll leave 15%. In this economy, if we get a waitress/waiter who's friendly and does a good job, my husband and I will tip upwards of 25-50% (sometimes our bill itself is very small), because we can afford to and being a waiter is not a very good job in bad economies. I was a waitress for three days at a chili parlor, so it's not because of the experience of waiting. However, I worked in customer service for 6 to 7 years and I do what I can to help anyone who works in this industry (phone reps, regular employees, waiters, etc.), because it is one of the worst areas someone can work. When my husband and I tip extra, I bet you we're only making up for other people who somehow can afford to eat out but not leave at least a 15-20% tip...
