Barred From Carrying Out A Resuce Because Of LUNCH BREAK!

Give me a break! A team of ambulance attendants requested for back up to rescue a young 9 year old girl involved in a car accident which resulted her having a fractured skull. Guess what? The team's request were DENIED! Reason? It is LUNCH BREAK - these other attendants need to have their lunch and finish eating it before they can proceed! What a crap, right? Unbelievable! Especially when this is actually coming from UK. What is happening with the system there? Or rather the country as a whole? I though that guide lines were just that guide lines. It's too bad that some people take guide lines as laws. The paramedics were probably finished with their eating any way from what I read. They had just a few minutes left on their lunch. When the first responders called direct their colleagues directly and they abandoned their lunch and raced to help. So it wasn't the attendants that objected to giving up their lunch. Sometimes guidelines just so out of wack.

I understand the system wanting to take care of the health of the emergency people but They aren't going to endanger their health if they missed one meal. Hopefully they will rethink their guidelines.

deebomb, I cannot believe how these people can throw their sense of duty and priority, right of the door here. I cannot help feeling appalled with these people who can treat lunch hour as a rule. Since when? Douglas Bader once said: “Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.” I hope these people or rather fools, will get their act straight!

Hi Milla but in the First World you would think that they lunch hours were staggered so someone was always on duty to cover emergencies. Of course they need to eat but an emergency is an emergency and this must come first.

milla9, I am sorry but what do you think the code of conduct is for civil servants like the medical ambulance attendants, police or even soldiers? Is a meal or one meal or in this case one lunch simply more important over a life in danger? Is the little child's life threatening situation, not forgetting a fractured skull so insignificant to a meal? Yet, we have one crew working their heads and wits off WITH NO LUNCH, and their teammates REFUSED TO RESPOND and come to their aid because of LUNCH! Boy, they sure spoke volumes about these peoples' sense of responsibility, civility, perspective of other peoples' life and most of all their gross misconduct. Also, their sense of esprit-de-corp, leaving their teammates out struggling and in hunger. I do not know about you but I do not or rather a majority of healthy people would not and never be unwell missing out one measly meal like lunch. These people are just appalling and abhorrent.

You never fail to amaze me with your posts. You always bring my attention to something very worthwhile. I can't imagine that happening out here and we are a Third World Country that is slipping into the Fourth World - very rapidly too!

Wow i can't believe that this actually happened. I mean that's like saying that your lunch break is worth more than saving a life! What the H##! is wrong with these people. If I were the parent of the little girl, I would be suing the crap out of the paramedics who refused to help. I am sorry but when you are in that kind of work, rescuing people SHOULD be your FIRST priority. I can not believe that this is true and I am very glad that you have brought it to the attention of us here on mylot. This is something that everyone should know cause if you can't count of the paramedics, who can you count on?

CRIVAS, My exact sentiments here and like you I am asking the same question as you. Ya! What exactly in the H##! is wrong with these people? I suppose we will never know. On the hindsight, I am wondering if the economic downturn's repercussions has anything to do with the lethargic and disregard of urgency or importance in these life threatening situations. I know that there is no excuse for their wrongful misconduct but I am cannot help feeling if the current economic downturn is much deeper and severe than it meets the the eye.
