When I was a kid and there was a bad thunderstorm my parents used to tell us to turn off all the lights and t.v to be quiet and sometimes we would all gather in the same room downstairs if it was totally dark and the lights went out we lit candles a lot of the times we would talk about whatever was on our minds my mother said we can see how people lived before electricity was invented, with no tv radio,ect.. my father did keep a transistor radio handy for when the storms knocked out the power. Now I sort of do the same except most times I wait for the power to go out and still light a candle if the power does go out and gather in a room with my family and we talk about different things and just wait it out before you know it the storm is over me personally ... I prefer not being being alone in bad storms especially if its at night What do you do if the power goes out from a storm?

Find some candles if the power went out, typically happens during the night. Usually when it's storming out we don't do anything special. Usually the same things as we do in winter when we are stuck inside. THe kids appreciate a good snuggle if it's a loud thunderstorm. Watch a movie or two, read, play Wii....

The whole family would like to play Monopoly game in our living room. Other time, we watched some movies and even cartoons over the cable. Loved to teach them in their advance lessons for the next days school. Also, playing hide in seek and running errands with all those high pitch shouting and laughing as it will not be heard by neighbors due to the rain.lol

Hi Fulltank My sister and I used to play hide and seek when there was a thunderstorm we used to scare the dickens out of each other jumping out and saying boo from inside the closet or from behind the door. She got me good one night she jumped out at me at the exact moment that the lightning lit up the the house and she jumped out from behind the door but she was on the floor when she did it and grabbed my ankle and I saw her face in the when the hallway lit up and she scared the crap outta me

One of the things that I've done when the power goes out is light a lot of candles. It's interesting though when it does go out because I love thunderstorms. I usually read during a storm if I have enough candles.

I pretty much continue doing what I was doing - since my power comes from under ground and I do have the computer on the surge protector... We never did much special when I was a kid, unless the power did go out, then mom & dad would light a few candles. A few weeks ago, we had about 5 minutes without power, we turned on a flashlight and pointed it at the ceiling until the power came back on. Generally, tho, if I lose power, I just go to bed...

I don't care to be in a storm with the power out either, but I live alone with my cat and bird. We just had this happen last winter. I had candles and those touch lights, so I used them. I also had a full battery charge on my laptop, so I was able to get on, plus I had my portable police scanner to keep up with what was going on.

I sleep sleep sleep... I spend time with my family, we just joke a lot or play the guitar together. There are a lot of things we could do if power is out and there's a storm. It's good to have storms when you're at home. But if you're out, whew! That's the worst time for rain.

Hi Laydee I can't sleep during a storm it always wakes me up with all the noise plus I never know when a big boom is coming so if I try to sleep I'll just be startled by the thunder claps

If it is thundering and lightening then I will unplug the tv's so they don't get hit by the lightening. But we leave the lights on and then if the power goes out we will know it by the lights going off. Then if the power goes out then we light some candles if it's dark so we can see and we just sit around and talk until the power comes back on. There hasn't been many times here at the house that we live at now that the storm has knocked out our power. And the few times that it has the power has come back on within an hour.

Our power goes out quite regularly. When it does at night I light candles and sit at the table in the dark. Sometimes I'll pull out my journal and write by the candle light, other time I'll just doodle. Hubby can't sit still when the power is out. He'll pace back and forth in the house, and even out IN the storm back and forth from our house to his parents across the street until the power comes back on.

as much as possible we stay inside the house when there is a storm. if power goes out, we light candles if the storm happens at night. the main switch of electricity is shut down. we check everything in the refrigerator and make time to clean the inside of the ref. we keep watch of any flooding outside the house (as we had experienced a little flooding years ago) and we get ready when it does in order to bring the furniture up our second floor. we check the small canals on the side fence if these are not clogged up and sweep whatever is stopping the flow of water. we store water in big containers in case the storm is slow and stays in our area for a time. we do a lot of things before, during and after the storm. we do not sleep and should be ready for any eventuality.

When there is a storm we're doing the same things that you do with your family. We gather in one place and talking about different things. We also turn on the radio to monitor the weather forecast and listen to the news. At night we use to sleep in one place so just in case something happen we can find each other. When there is a storm we also spend time to pray. We're doing that to ask guidance from God and to pray for the other people to be safe.

I also don't want to be alone when it's storming outside. What I usually do is that i prepare some soup. A nice warm and heart soup feels so good in the stomach and makes you feel good too when the storms pouring outside. Then i sleep, sleep and sleep. Or sometimes before I sleep, I read a book until i doze off to sleep.

I hate storms (like rain, though), they make me feel helpless and I guess I don't really like this feeling. If during a storm the power is out too, then it's even worse. Of course I lit candles, it's the only way I can see something and I have a lot of candles all over the house. Usually I take a long bubble bath with candles all around and I try to transform the evening into something romantic, although with no music it's a little harder. If the power is on, but there's a storm outside, the possibilities are endless: from watching a movie or reading a book to surfing the net, listening to music or almost anything else, I've tried them all. And they all work, depending on the moods of the moment.

I live in London and I honestly cannot remember the last time we had a storm! The closest thing to this has been a heavy downpour with that lovely sound of rain tapping against the windows! On occasions like this though I love to settle down with a good book and a hot drink. I can escape for hours by doing this and I allow the world to pass by outside. During the power cuts that we've suffered in the past I too have used candles and they are very nice. I don't see why we should use electricity all the time. I think that it's perfectly acceptable to use candles from time to time, there's something peaceful and calm about this. The powercuts didn't last that long anyhow, probably half hour at most whilst the technical guys sorted out the problem. Andrew

When I was a kid our house that time always been flooded during typhoons. My mother and I always hurrying to transfer our appliaces in higher places. I hate the typhoons that time. This recently typhoon Ondoy I have been here and never mind that there's already flood oustide.

I am okay with being alone at home even when there is a storm outside. If there is electricity, then I would just go do all the typical things I do at home like watch tv or surf the internet or read a book. Maybe I don't care if there is a storm because I am not afraid of it. Fortunately, I was never ever afraid of storms. On the other hand, if there was no electricity, I usually just lie in bed. I also chat with my family when we are all in the same room.

Hi Cherryd, Our country is prone to typhoons/storms and in times like this we just stay home and enjoy the company of each—kids, husband and myself. To keep us warm I used to prepare macaroni soup and cook whatever is available in our refrigerator. Yes, I need to cook whatever is inside the freezer because we also experience brownouts/power interruption during typhoon. After eating we just stay in the bedroom with the kids…sleep, play, storytelling, sing song together and just be there hugging and showing our love with each other. What a lovely weather for family bonding without any expenses!

Before when I was just a child I used to go inside my room, lye on my bed, and cover myself with a blanket. :p But now I just enjoy the cold feeling brought by the rain if there's any. I also comfort my younger siblings and my cute pet dog. They're afraid of thunderstorms just like me before. Good day to you. :)

I have been with the same situation before. It was a total black-out and outside, the rain pours very hard and the wind is so very strong that trees were like bending. In or house, we hav emergency lights and flashlights that when these things will happen, we are ready. We tnd to sleep together, usually in our living room because nobody wants to be alone. We also light candles. We also makes sure that everything is safe from any danger.
