Christmas is fast approaching. It's a tradition in our family to give gifts to one another during the holiday season. I'm planning to start my shopping list already to help me out when I'll have the time to shop. Do you have any idea of what gifts to give? I'm actually trying to cost down the budget for these because we have lots of things to pay for. I'm looking for cheap but usable gifts for my family and friends. Please help me.

i make a lot of my own gifts every year. last year we made calenders for everyone and i scrapbooked for my nieces. this year i will be making food mixes in a jar and have also made collages in dollar store frames. you could also try candle making or maybe even soap. you can get supplies at craft stores and these gifts are not that expensive.

thanks for the idea. i love scrapbooking too. but for me i'm more into digital scrapbooking. nowadays, there are lots of templates, cliparts, background papers and other embellishments that you can download from the net. then i can just print it and put it in frame. i think i can also try those food mixes in jar because i also enjoy cooking.

I think I'm going to start doing my christmas shopping soon this year. last year I waited until a week before christmas to do shopping for everyone, and it put me in financial strain for quite some time. I think it'd be wiser If I started to buy things now and can actually have the time to shop around and look for some deals. I feel like I always end up spending more when I have to rush to get something in time for christmas.

i agree with you. it's really a good idea to start shopping early especially for those who have lots of friends and family members to give gifts to. shopping malls get so overcrowded as the holiday season is nearing.

I buy Christmas gifts all year long. I have a tote that I keep them all in. Whenever I find something on sale that I think is a good deal I will buy it and put it in the tote. Then when Christmas comes around I make a list of everyone I want to give a gift to and then I go through my tote and find a suitable present for everyone on my list. I usually don't use everything that I have bought so I have gifts for birthdays and other occasions. It works our really good and decreases a lot of the stress that Christmas time brings.

Wow that's really great! I can apply your technique for small items. I'm afraid I don't have that much space at home for bulky ones. Maybe I could start buying something too specially when there are mall sales. Thanks!

This is the first Christmas after my marriage. So, this time I need to get gifts for my family and my husband's family. It is a really difficult task since I am poor at deciding on gifts. I am always tensed that if the person I gift things will like the present or not. After discussing a lot, finally we decided on the gifts.
Dad - Cell phone, mom - Sari (Indian dress usually women at my place use), sister -t-shirt, brother - t-shirt, two cousins - t-shirt. We will also get some choclates and give a couple of dollars to my little cosins. We are still thinking about the things to get for my inlwas. It is really a difficult task. Both my husband and I are poort at selecting gifts.

You're right about that. It's really a difficult task finding gifts not just for Christmas but for other occasions as well. I'm also married so I'll be buying not just for my family but for my in-laws too. It's really helpful to have a list before you go shopping to save time and effort. Goodluck on your first Christmas with your husband and I'm sure that everyone will like your gifts. It's the thought that counts anyway!

I save money by making things for people. I like to make calendars for people with pictures of my kids. I also like to put all the dry ingredients to a recipe in a mason car and attach the recipe for people to make at home.

Thanks for the nice idea. I think i can create my own calendar since I have knowledge in Adobe Photoshop. Can you suggest any other software that I can use in doing custom made calendars?

I don't usually give gifts that is why I do not know what to buy. For me, if ever I will receive a gift, I would really want to have a toy/games or anything that will be useful for me, or maybe a weird stuff that is fun to have. I don't really look for gifts, usually, I just walk without looking for a specific thing and then I just think of who will be happy on the things I find interesting. I don't have list of gifts to buy but rather list of person I will give gifts. hehe.
