Where are the jobs we were promised?

People are getting impatient: http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/obama/2009/10/14/patience-wearing-thin-as-obama-turns-to-jobs.html "To advance the idea-generation process and demonstrate concern to the public, President Obama met last week with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid. And even though no plan was finalized, administration sources said many ideas are under consideration" What, did they make the promises and decide they'll keep trying ideas until something works? Was no plan in place when they implemented the stimulus? I think that this administration is just groping blindly in a trial and error type of way and it's proving to be a disastrous practice. Read the article, he's meeting with Pelosi and company and they're throwing out ideas like new taxes, etc. WHAT?! They didn't lay out plans before they spent billions of our money?! What do you think? Are there jobs coming or are they just spitting in the wind? I know I've been unemployed for 9 months and it might get dicey very soon for me. Lots of people are worse off than I am. Where are the jobs?

Jobs should have been in the top ten list. Instead the top ten list included such things as ordering pizza, going on an undeserved vacation, taking Michelle out to dinner, and apologizing to everyone about how horrible America is. I think jobs was somewhere at the bottom of his complete "to do" list. Probably penciled it in after the fact.

People just aren't looking in the right place. The federal government in the last 6 months has hired 25000 new employees. Fourteen of the top federal agencies responsible for spending under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act say they’ve hired about 3,000 workers with stimulus money. That’s helped fuel the continued growth of the federal government, which increased by more than 25,000 employees, or 1.3%, since December 2008, according to the latest quarterly report. During that time, the ranks of the nation’s unemployed increased by nearly 4 million, Labor Department statistics show. Overall, there are about 2 million federal workers, the data show. Thirteen agencies that report stimulus-related administrative expenses separately on their weekly spending reports say they’ve spent $186.8 million so far on salaries and other overhead. Those agencies have reported spending $46.1 billion in stimulus funds overall. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-09-23-stimfed_N.htm

The amount of government jobs available in my area are zero. I'm sure others can say the same, in fact a majority of people. Doesn't help.

Jobs, What jobs? Remember our companies have been sending them all overseas. We've been setting ourselves up for this for years. You can't keep spending money when there's little to no income. You can't turn around without seeing something ( made in China ) or ( made in Mexico ). What are we exporting to bring the money spent on those items back into the country? Little to nothing... We're a nation of consumers & distributors. It was just a matter of time before the whole house of credit cards fell apart. You can't expect the president to fix this sinking ship either. The most we can hope for is that he can keep her afloat long enough for US to make the repairs. We need to start making things for ourselves again & cut out the big corporate offices & their high paid execs who bleed out our country.

Yawn. Jobs have been going "overseas" for decades. This recession is only a couple of years old. Try a different target, one that might make sense.

The recession started BEFORE Obama took office so he can't be responsible for it! The attitudes of our corporations is what caused all this B.S.. They swindled the country for years all the while lining their own pockets until eventually everything fell apart. If your thinking it was caused by the government & particularly the present administration your sadly mistaken. Obama got into office & has had to be playing damage control ever since. What do you expect him to do? People don't have money to buy anything & even if they did those products would likely be from overseas. How does sending our money abroad help OUR economy?

Now of course you'll come back with the sending money to Pakistan thing & I have to agree, that IS retarded. You still have to lay the blame for the recession where it belongs, at the feet of the corporate big wigs.

Guess we should all follow the money. Move to Pakistan where he is giving $7 billion in aid. How can he give what we don't have? Wonder where all those so called green jobs are? Look at the environmentalists. They don't want the solar panels in the desert because it might interrupt the Mojave ground squirrel, desert tortoise and the burring ground owl. Ted Kennedy didn't want a cape wind farms to block his view of the ocean. and so it goes. These people have no idea how to create new jobs just how to print money and make empty promises. until the government get out of the private sector jobs will not come.

I agree. I heard today that with the car takeover and other things, the government might own about 57% of the formerly privately owned wealth in this country. What does that sound like, eh? I just heard about Pakistan. There are several talk show hosts that are encouraging peaceful protest and peaceful action, bombarding our reps with phone calls and emails and letters. Something is going to give soon if we don't let our government take away our right to free speech. That's the only way they'll escape the backlash.

If Mark Lloyd has his way We won't have any one speaking up for us and letting us know what is going on. He want's to control the media. it scares me that this man has so much control. http://www.foxnews.com/video2/video08.html?maven_referralObject=8711717&maven_referralPlaylistId=&sRevUrl=http://www.foxnews.com/glennbeck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9ffAP5ixhg

The shovels are ready, the workers are ready... but Obama, Pelosi and Reid aren't ready to actually come through with any of their promises.

Princess Pelosi is actually demanding an added value tax to make it tougher on producers and consumers. She's a BIG part of the problem.

yes everyone is wondering about this. i really think this young president just bit off more then he can chew as the old saying goes. he promised everything just to get elected. people, most obviously just wanted him in office because hes black i think thats pretty plain. i dont think he had any plans for anything. i just think he thought he'd handle things when and if he had to. and now hes stumped.

I agree with everything you said except the fact that he was elected because he is black. I didn't vote for him because he scared me with his talk of redistributing the wealth. But most of the people who voted for him were so sick and tired of being stepped on that they voted for "hope and change" blindly and without any concrete proof or plans that they would get it. I really don't think it's a racial issue, I think it's a matter of people sick and tired of what they've been getting for decades and thinking they would get something different.

I think the promises made pre-election are never to be taken seriously. Neither by the politicians nor by the people! Politicians tend to forget these promises after they are elected and they expect the people to do so, though people can't forget so easily. It is not just a country specific thing, but anywhere in the world a politician is a politician, who do the same thing..may be in a different way.

What you say is true, but in the U.S. people believe the pre-election promises. I don't know why, there has been absolutely no history of politicians keeping their promises. But that's why Obama was elected and people are getting angry--he hasn't kept promises and is bankrupting our country. If our people would only think as you do, we'd have better government. Instead, they go for good looks and charisma. And look at where it's gotten us.

We've lost hundreds of thousands of jobs here in Ohio. When the stimulus was proposed, the President said it would provide "shovel ready jobs". I don't see those, nor do I see any other jobs opening up--except for thousands of them in D.C. that costs me and you more money!
