People of Unsound Minds are Greatly Attracted To Me

This has happened all of my life. It began at the age of five, I was standing outside of Church and a lady told me not to stand in the way of way the Mother of God. I hopped this way and that way as per her instructions and then my big sister grabbed my hand and told me not to talk to people who were crackers. That was when the gene kicked in. I grew up into a very nervous little girl, then young lady who attracted these people. Then I went to college in London and did this stop? No. If there was a crazy on the tube, or a bus, or on a plane - it could be anywhere and you could stake your life that they made straight for me. Smiling and with outstretched arms to try and hug me. It did not matter what country I was in they would zoom into me like a homing pigeon. No one hurt me as they all loved me. Adored me. Wanted to touch me with unwashed hands. So I married and set out in a an adventure in a new country to grow bananas and I stupidly thought that this would now change. It didn't. It got worse and was a great source of amusement to husband and children as they all came up to the house seeking me. I learnt to hide very quickly but they would wait for me to come out. Patiently. And it was hot locked up in the house so I had to open the doors and windows. My children have grown up accepting this as a way of life as none of them has ever threatened or hurt me. Their friends are a bit perplexed when they see them ambling towards me in our nearest town and I then call them by their names. There was Ribsy who would stand on the road near to the house and curse my husband for marrying me and then poor Speerie who swore undying love for me. I was not at all flattered because they were all a tree short of a forest. I mean no disrespect but they were all a picnic short of a sandwich or as thick as a 2 X 4. I was just so grateful that I had not passed the gene on to my children. Then yesterday evening I received a call from my daughter She had just got her hair done at a beauty salon and ws in town. Mummy - there is a mad man lying down on the top of my car! (we say it klike it is out here in J.A.) Well, tell him to get off. I have but he won't move. Any police around? No. You have to come NOW! O.K. Open you car and get inside and lock yourself in. I am on my way! I sped off and reached there in about 5 mins. Mother to the rescue! And what do I find? She was not in the car but was standing there talking to him and he was looking at her in a most loving fashion. OH MUMMY, SHE SAID. YOU NEEDN'T HAVE COME. I DON'T NEED RESCUING. HE SAYS HE LOVES ME AND WOULD NEVER HARM ME. I kept my mouth firmly shout and had the good sense not to say what I was thinking. The daughter does carry the gene but it has just raised its head and is now active in her body! Well, I consoled myself as I returned to my office. At least her life will not be dull and boring. So tell me, do you have encounters with people of unsound mind in your country or community?

I think you should feel very special that these people look for you. My sister and I must have a similar gene because we’ve been saying for years that if there is a ‘weirdo’ in the room he or she will always be attracted to either one of us. We are the ones who get stuck talking to these people on the bus on the way to work or in line at the supermarket. I have always thought that it was because we are both too nice to tell them to go away so they are drawn to us. It does open life up to interesting experiences, don’t you think?

You're a good writer, you should consider writing a memoir, I think it would be interesting and hilarious and would probably sell very well!

I think I nust have a tatoo on my forehead, invisible to me but visible to all the visiting and resident nutters that says, ' All weird people are welcome to share my space.' I'm always getting caught. Somebody sat next to me on the bus years ago, and said, 'Do you know what's in my box?' I thought they were referring to a tv sketch which had aired the previous night, so I said, 'No, do you want to show me?' The nutter opened the box and it was empty. I just got off the bus two stops early rather than get drawn in further. I always seem to land next to the ones who talk to themselves as well. Last time it happened, I was just trying to ignore them and looked out of the window. The woman broke off her monologue and said, 'You don't fool me - I know they've sent you for me.' Once again, I took the easy option and left.

That sounds about like my life. I seem to attract all of the worng people also. I shake them off quickly though if they are not my type. I do have some decent people in my life but not too many. Alot of people think I am on a different level, I guess.

Oh yeah...I know all about this gene....I have it as well. I believe I have a sign tatooed on my head... "I will talk to all nut cases" I guess I have always been able to talk to anyone I can hold a perfectly good conversation with a 2 year old or a 100 year old. And anyone in between...including all the nut cases. I will say, it does make for a interesting life.

Hey Cynthiann, Has anyone ever told you that you have a gift for writing? This is one more post of yours that I have enjoyed reading and had a good laugh in the process! Personally, I don't remember such 'interesting' encounters but I know that I may have panicked if they actually happened! I needed a laugh today, so, thanks for this post.

My life has had many similar encounters. I seem to attract "eccentric" people, but I've been called eccentric as well. I meet some very unique individuals because of the same sort of gene. My mom attracts odd people but tries to get rid of them and deny that she's a little odd herself. ;)

I am sure that it is definetly a gene. But it does make life intersting though. Maybe I am odd too. who knows?

People just know you're special. And unforunately the odd balls express this very openly.

Not really I seem to attract those who cling....those who need to call at 3 a.m. for someone to listen to their latest series of problems...even at work...I am usually the mediator that solves the problems....and if there is a problem about all of this it would be when I need someone to listen they have closed ears! LOL....

Oh that is sad. You can pm me day or night. No one calls me at 3 am though. But they do ask for advise at other times. Thinks: Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall inherit.....

Um, they're all friends and relatives. And they're only a little bit nutty. Better this than attracting stalkers. Yuck...

You know we call that kind of a person as "Albeli", a person lost in her own little world. She is sweet and all human beings who are generally avoided by the "normal" people are more attracted toward these "Albelis" You must have been a bit different (in a good way) from the other kids at your school. These people are more sharing, compassionate and lost in their own world. Would like to add here my mom is just like that. She was once very scared on her way to school when a woman started to dance frenzy by looking at her then outstretched her hands to grab her. Species like you are extinct nowadays, where the world is full of materialistic people, running and chasing materialistic pleasures. Bodhi

Hi Cynthiann, if I make the general statement that everyone in the fishing village is related to everyone else and thus a lot of interbreeding around, plus a lot of trying to hide certain members away, would that answer your question?

It would explain everything quite perfectly and beautifully. Sighs with relief: Thinks:" Then it is not a gene?
