The Toilet Seat & MEN

Does it bother anyone else when your spouse leaves the seat up? Or if they pee on the seat and leave it in that condition? I, like many have experienced a cold throne in the middle of the night cause the seat was left up. I'd understand if he was living alone but he lives with 3 females! And all of us have had our bout with this issue and my hubby. I'm sure we'll have this issue when my lil guy is big enough to use the potty. How do you feel about them being too lazy to put the seat down? To you holler at them? Just deal with it?

I'm actually the underdog in my house... 5 boys and only 2 girls, but we do not have an issue with anyone leaving the seat up. Actually I have a shelf over my toilet so the seat cannot stay up unless the jam it under the shelf, which is not easy or safe to do, the shelf wobbles a bit when it's moved! I do have an issue with the puddles on the seat though! That's mostly caused by my 3 year old and 6 year old sons... the 3 year old mostly. I don't think he lifts the seat at all yet, and his aim is terrible! When he does lift the seat, since you have to hold it up, he can't hold the seat, and aim, and lift his shirt and hold down his pants all at the same time, so he'll end up having to change his clothes after! He goes through about 5 outfits a day, but I still have to wipe the seat before I sit each and every time!!

Yeah it gets a bit frustrating.. especially the times when I'm in too much of a hurry to wipe the seat first, or I just forget, or like in the middle of the night when I don't expect I should have to. Then I get a wet butt!! I think I'd rather fall into a toilet of clean water than sit on someone else's pee!! I just keep reminding myself it will get better in time. Except that I still have the youngest boy whom I haven't started potty training yet... so I still have to go through it all again with him!

I don't have any problem with my hubby and kids putting down the seat since I trained my kids to bring down the seat after every pee and make sure that they flashed their pee. It will be a big issue for me if they will not put the seat up and pee with sprinkles around it. Reinforcement is important because this is oftentimes being neglected/ignored and just let the next person to do it or clean the mess.

When I was doing my maid training in the early days I seemed to have been caned more times for leaving the toilet seat up than anything else so I soon learned not to do it and now I put it down as a habit.

Corporal punsihment on a guy for leaving the toilet seat up!?!? That could be effective but somehow I don't think my hubby would go for that! Then he'd try it on me for not doing something to his liking ect... is where I could see that going.

Not really inhuman. I am a male maid and I had proper professional training by experienced hoteliers. It is expensive so it it needs to be effective and the ladies I know who provide this service all use corporal punishment. It is quick and effective. How else are you going to teach a man to put the toilet seat down in few short weeks

Caned? During training? Holy smokes, where do you live, my dear? That is inhumane.

My husband manages to miss the toilet altogether and pee on the floor. He does this at least once a day. Luckily, our bathroom has a marble floor, and, as we live in Spain, we don't need mats, so it's easily dealt with. I just look at him, say 'Mop that mess up' and he does it. Problem solved.

I'd love to be able to get that kind of work outta him. Does he grumble about it? I used to tell mine to go wipe that mess off the seat & make it snappy cause I had to go!

I actually don't bother them leaving the toilet seat up. I can always use the tissue to bring them back down. I would most probably get ballistic if they pee while the toilet seat is down. A lot of men are really lazy. Some even forget to wash their hands after peeing.. Anyway, lately I have this new habit of just hovering the toilet seat because i can never be sure anymore whether the guys peed seat up or seat down. Therefore just to be safe, i'd rather not let my skin touch the toilet. But that only applies when I am taking a pee. :D

Wow, it is very disdusting if the men at my home pee on the seat up. I can not stand it. You are patient to use the tissue to play like that, if I were you, I will shut the toilet up and don't want them to use any more.

It is really disgusting if men pee on the toilet seats. Yep,men should show consideration for ladies, i mean, men should put the toilet seat down after using it. However men might still ask why should I put it down, cause I still have to leave the seat up when I want to pee; why ladies don't keep it up to show consideration for men. It is really a tough issue. One suggestion is to use squat toilet instead of sitting one.

I've never seen or heard of a squat toilet here on this end. Plus wouldn't you have to take your bottoms off so you don't get yourself wet ect? Or is it similar to the way women are supposed to lean against a tree just so in the woods to go. I've never tried but I've heard of others who are more outdoors-ie than I am do it.

With the squat toilet I think meams an oriental style toilet that youi get in the east and africa where you have two foot shapes either side of the hole but there is not seat you just crouch down most asian and african children are taught to do this from and early age

My hubby used to do that…leave drops on the edge and walk off! Everytime I pointed it out, his pet excuse was he couldn’t see it…man!!! If I could, how could he NOT?????? And the worst part was that our son was picking up that habit…if dad does it, so do I!!! After much raving and ranting and shouting and threatening (yep…I even threatened to make him wash the entire potty just then and there if there was a ‘next time’)…so now he knows that he’s got to be extra careful. He cant just empty his bladder, flush and walk away…he’s got to look down and see that the seat’s clean too.

I gave up hollering at my husband when we were together. My boys were considerate and left the seat down. Divorcing me was the best thing my husband ever did for me. No more toilet seats up, no clothes all over the house to pick up, no wet bathroom floors after he showers, no more burping and farting all night. I don't think you can make them put it down. I asked my sons from the time I potty trained them to put the lid down and I think that's what you have to do in order to prevent this ongoing problem between men and women!

I'm fortunate that my husband puts the seat down. One thought, when you flush the toilet you should close the lid. Dr. Oz did a segment on his show about that. When you flush, the water sprays SIX FEET, all around. Do you have your toothbrushes on your bathroom sink? They are being sprayed with water from your toilet everytime you flush! Dr. Oz tested some toothbrushes that were on the bathroom sink, he found a whole slew of bacteria, including ecoli. Imagine brushing your teeth with ecoli! To prevent contamination of your toothbrushes and everything else in your bathroom, put the lid down when you flush. Simple as that.

I did not know that. Thank you for sharing. I must remember to put the lid down when I flush the toilet. My youngest daughter does this all the time because she is afraid the water will splash on her and everything else that is in it. I must commend her on this and explain that it is important to continue doing this.

I always feel bad whenever a female has to use a public bathroom in a place that only has one single unisex bathroom. It's like that for the public at where my girlfriend works at and almost everytime I go in there to use the bathroom I have to wipe somebody else's pee off the toilet seat. Sometimes you go into a men's restroom and you see pee all over the floor like the person didn't even attempt to get it into the toilet. It's pretty gross.

Yes, I hear you, sister...lol And while we're here, why do they either leave the towels on the floor they have just soaked with the shower, OR if they hang it on the hook, they scrunch up the top and shove it on so it doesn't hang and dry properly? The toilet seat I decided wasn't worth a fight. Choose your battles, and this wasn't one I was going to win! So basically, he goes, he leaves it up. If I go in the bathroom I will put it down. You would think they'd eventually get the message, but I am learning that having a husband is quite similar to having a small child.

I've never been married, but I did live with my ex-boyfriend for a while. One day I got so po'ed at him leaving the seat up, I super glued it down. While it proved my point, it was not the smartest move because I could not lift it up to clean. To get it unstuck was worth more effort than it was worth. He did actually start putting the seat down after that, though...

As one of the few males who is responding to this discussion, I would like to state it is the opposite in my house, and it is me who keeps the toilet clean, whereas my wife after she takes a pee, forgets even to flush. Of course it does not happen regularly, but only in the night when she gets up in the middle of the night and uses the bathroom. Well I usually holler at her, the first thing in the morning, as soon as she gets up.At times because of this, some big fights also happen, when both of us holler and disturb the other tenants.

That's what men do..they leave the seat up! I don't think that will ever change. It's become almost a mancho thing for them now...their sign of being a real man..lol

Personally I don't have an issue with leaving the seat up. I had three sons and no daughters, so my house was like a testosterone zone for years! I figure they got just as aggravated when the seat was left down! Pee on the seat is different. That's just piggish and warranted quick action. You make a mess, you clean the mess - that's my motto. Making the boys clean the bathrooms as part of their weekly chores pretty much solved the issue for me, except for one son who is just a pig. Sometimes I would ask the hubby to clean the toilet for me because I'm busy doing X... choosing appropriate times when the toilet was really nasty. After three or four times he got the message.

This drives me insane. I cannot stand it when the toilet seat is left up. When it is I shout at the person who did it to go and put it back down. Leave it as you found it which is down!

My husband does this all the time, leaving the toilet seat up. He does not pee on the seat though, thank goodness. The only time he leaves the toilet seat down is when he just finished doing his morning or evening rituals. But, that is another story because I get discouraged from using the toilet with the smell, even if he used the bathroom spray. No use in hollering at him as it is his habit or a man's usual habit. Fortunately, he uses one bathroom most of the time and my girls another one. It is basically me who is dealing with this issue all the time.
