This is my GOOD nephew!! LOL He's the first one born and he's such an awesome kid!! Funny that I still call him "kid" because he's married with three kids of his own! lol But he'll always be a kid to me and I'll always be ever so fond of him!! He has worked his butt off to get where he's at and is doing so darned good! He's had some struggles in his life, more often than not but he's always came out on top smelling like a rose! Well, I just got an email from him stating he's changing his email address because the other one is to his job and he's quiting it to join the police force! I'm ecstatic yet I'm very concerned. Especially with just loosing one of our own in my state. I have nothing but utmost respect for these people and am forever grateful to have them around to protect us like they do but I do worry about them especially when it's someone so close to me! So come October 22nd, he'll be a cop and a DAMN good one at that!! Way to go Brandon!! This aunt of yours LOVES you to no end and I'm SO PROUD of YOU!!
Do you have a cop in your family?

Yes I do. My brother in law is a police man and has been in the Force for many years. He is my husband’s brother and he is now a detective. It is very interesting and I was surprised at how hard he had to work to get to that stage in his job. He had to study and pass exams which I would imagine would not be easy. The last time we visited them was a couple of years ago because they live in another state and he gave my daughter a policeman shirt and hat; she was thrilled and has been treasuring them in her room. You are right to be proud of your nephew I think that it takes special people to do certain jobs just like policemen and nurses, they are more than just jobs, they are a way of life. Funnily enough my sister in law happens to be a nurse!

I can only imagine the stories you hear when you see your brother in law. I've heard stories about the military being in Iraq and it's not pretty over there at all so I can only imagine the stories cops have to tell. But like you, I have a high respect for them because it does take a special person to do that kind of work. Without them, we'd be overwhelmed with criminals taking over. Same goes with nurses, they see a lot of things and are suppose to turn a blind eye to it. I couldn't! I'd be on the floor and somebody dragging me away slapping my face telling me to wake up!! LOL

Me too! I would make a terrible nurse! My brother in law knows well known criminals and his stories are fascinating; his kids are so used to them, they take them for granted! My daughter looks at him in awe!

that is good in some ways but i know what you mean about the worry.no cops but several of my uncles were prison guards because that was one of the good paying jobs near that small town of lukesville, ohio. we worried a lot because its about the worst prison in ohio. and before that they had been in the military through different combat zones/wars. but, all lived a good long life after retirement yes i know about feeling like they are still a kid. thats how iam with my grown kids and 2 even have grandkids already

Oh gosh! I'd be worried sick if I were married to a guy who worked in the prison system especially if it were one of the worst! They must have some really strong wives to be able to stand a lot of sleepless nights. Hubby and I can't have any kids so our nieces and nephews are the light of our lives. Most have kids of their own but we still consider them kids and I call all of them kiddo all the time and they just grin.

I don't know if it's nice or not to be related to someone in the police force because it makes us worry about them too much especially if they're close to our hearts like Brandon is to mine. He's such a good good kid and he turned out to be a fighter because of the hell he's been through growing up with a very mean step father and a mother who tried to brain wash him all the time. I just pray that nothing happens to him for I know he'll do really good.

hello,
Congratulations on your nephews success of being a Police Officer. I am sure that his entire community and his family, such as your self will be proud of him for taking such a honorable and hard core duty as one of the peace keepers of the land. remember, he will have enemies some day if a cop was able to arrest a hard core criminal. he should also be careful from the people they encounter, always safety.

Thanks! We're right proud of him! He's made something of himself which is more than I can say for my other nephew. Brandon is a no nonsense kind of guy but yet he's a comic when the time is right. I'm sure he'll do well but I still worry because it is a very dangerous job.

Hi CatsandDogs, I can understand how u feel! But they dont listen to us, do they? Dont worry, he will be fine. As to having a cop in our family, no. One of my cousins did join Air Force, and we were mighty proud of him, till he ran away from training finding it too tough. Somehow, I find I cannot really respect him after that. Especially since I know of some others who have spent their entire lives in army and will be retiring from the force, who were not half as well built as my cousin. May be, if my cousin had completed the training, and was commissioned as an officer, I too would have feared the way u do, and asked him to change his mind may be. But absconding like a coward during training! Well, some mothers do have them. My country is better off without such people in any force, dont u think?

Your cousin went awol? Is he nuts? I bet he had to spend some jail time in the brigg! Serves him right because he knew what he was getting into when he joined! My hubby spent 27 years in the army and just retired a couple of years ago, thank God! He was to be shipped out to Iraq but luckily he got a job in a different state so he didn't have to go! I'd have been white as snow by the time he got back! lol I know my nephew will do well but it being such a dangerous job, I really worry about him but knowing he's a tough guy, I know he'll do really well.

Hi Jo! I wish so much he wouldn't do this but that's what he wants to do so all I can do is pray and pray hard for his safety and that I will do! He's such a good good kid, always has been. He's been through hell all of his childhood because his mother did her best to brain wash him but he was able to balance it all out and not take anything personal. He got his mother to leave her abusive husband (3rd husband) because he had threatened to beat Brandon's butt and Brandon called his bluff!! Then he left and stayed with his aunt, his mothers sister's place and wouldn't return home unless his mother left that dirt bag! She had no choice but to leave him if she wanted to have her son back. He's a strong strong man inside and I couldn't be more proud of him! I just wish my other nephew had HALF of what Brandon has!!

I've had several in my family. Some are still working, some are retired. I can say to you that no member of my family, nor anyone they worked with, ever got killed in the line of duty, nor did they even get hurt on the job, other than one cousin getting a sprained ankle because a car smashed into a car she had stopped and that car rolled into hers while she sat in the driver's seat with the door open and her left foot on the ground. The door closed as a result of that slight accident and crushed her ankle. That's the worst that has ever happened.
I honestly never worried about them, even though the majority in my family worked in Baltimore City, one of the highest crime cities in the country. They were all trained very well and knew how to handle every call or incident.
I also had a neighbor whom I grew up with who joined the police force. He was never injured, either. I'd say that you really shouldn't worry about your nephew. He'll do just fine.

Wow thanks Marti! That's really reassuring! Especially after just losing one of our own here in North Carolina. Although I didn't know the guy or his family, it still hits home, you know? I hate to see anybody be killed especially the good guys. But thanks for the reassurance!! That does make me feel some what better about the whole thing! Hugs!

My cousin's son is a cop, and mostly in their family are related to the armed forces job. I admire and have a high respect for cops as people can depend upon them in times of trouble. They sacrifice everything including time for their families just to perform thier duties, though really inevitable for their relatives to worry as their job is quite risky but then God is there to protect them. Besides if your nephew love to be a cop for sure he'll be with flying colors. Am praying for him as well, to be safe and succeed in his chosen field.

Oh I too have a high respect for cops because they face unimaginable danger in their jobs and it takes a strong strong person to be able to do it. My nephew is very strong and has the gift to gab so he'll do really well I'm sure. The thing that worries me is this, it only takes one bullet to hurt him or worse, kill him.

Congradulation to your nephew Brandon. No, I do not have any relatives who are cops. My neighbors sons are both cops. Being a cops is a hard and dangerous job and I am also grateful to these men and women who put their life on the line for us.

Thanks! I agree, I have the utmost respect for cops because of all the dangers they face on a daily basis! I know I couldn't do it, no way! But thank God we have people who can do it and do it rather well. I know Brandon is going to do really well, I'm sure of that but I do still worry because it takes just one time for him to be either hurt or worse.
