Feeling frustrated will not get you anywhere. Go grab some newspaper and read the news aloud in front of the mirror. Better yet, record yourself in the computer and then watch where you don't understand yourself the most. Getting proficient in English only takes practice.

i have this same feeling about it.i found that it often spend my time to learn it,i don't know how many years i learn it,but i still learn it.although i learn it very slowly, but i found that this is very intesting from it.in mylot,i can communicate my mind with some people from different countries,i feel that distance from humans is not long, english become same thing.so this often encourage me to learn it,believing yourself.

Hi christina,
I think that your job demands you to communicate with native English speakers. The best way to improve your communication in English is talking continuously in English and watching English pictures and channels. By watching them you can understand and catch their accent. Pictures help a lot when you want to improve your oral English because listening plays an important role in communication. Newspapers and books only helps you to improve your vocabulary but not oral English. So my advise is communicate more in English even with your friends and colleagues and watch more English channels.
I wish you all the best

You are doing a great thing by coming on mylot as you can practise talking to all sorts of people here on many subjects.
Just keep listening, speaking and writing and it will come!
If it is any comfort, I am ENGLISH and live in America and sometimes the locals don't understand me!

If it is required in your job to speak English to those that are in the states I would suggest that you talk with your employer in providing you tools to learn English. Being able to speak another language puts you in an advantage. Also in addition to the above or if your employer is not keen in providing you tools to learn English, I would get on the internet and explore and research software to purchase to help you learn English. You might even find something for free on the internet. I can suggest that you try www.rosettastone.com. See if they have a English softwhere for you and get that. The commercials I have seen it sounds like it is very user friendly and will help alot.
I wish you luck and do not worry as one poster said..I speak english and I am not always understood either...I get alot of "HuH?"....so your not alone. I commend you for wanting to learn and not having the attitude of "they need to learn how to communicate with me".
