More then one billion people are hungry.

That is a very sad but apparently true fact, the number of hungry people in the world has passed one billion. This means that one person in six will go to bed hungry tonight. Despite all our advances in technology, we have not been able to solve the most basic human problem. We can put a man on the moon, we have the power to wipe the human race off the face of the earth, yet men, women and children go hungry every day. Personally, I don't think we have made much progress, what are your thoughts?

This is very very sad and there is no need for it and no reason for this to be happening except that mankind is greedy and has no care towards fellow man and only cares about himself. I was on the topic of religion earlier and thought I should throw this into this topic of discussion. Apparently The Vatican has billions of dollars and since religion and the church is supposed to be about caring about fellow man and bettering life for all, maybe the Vatican could spare that money to help the poor starving people of the world. HA, not likely....they are just as greedy as anyone else! There is no need for the Vatican, head of the catholic religion, to have that much money when so many are hungry. It angers me! IN the meantime, I'll do my share and even though I do not have a lot of money, I share and give whenever and whatever I can!

Hi angemac, Thank you for this and I agree with you that there is no need for it. Why is so much money spent on war? Why are we willing to spend billions to see if there is water on the moon and other planets, when so many of our own don't have clean water to drink on earth? I agree that the Vatican should be helping more but so should other denominations and religions. The Mormon church is one of the richest in the world, people pay ten per cent to the church and they have no paid clergy. Other churches are spending untold millions to maintain big buildings and TV evangelists are taking money from pensioners who can barely keep themselves alive, all to spread their own propaganda. Christ taught that we are to help one another, to give to the hungry but modern Christianity is all about getting. I remember a priest who called on a family who hadn't paid the church in months. The only money they had was ten dollars that someone had given their newborn baby. He took the money. Does this sound like the teachings of Christ? We are all human being and citizens of planet earth, not one of us should be satisfied until everyone has at least the basic necessities of life. Blessings.

Yes that is also true....so much money is spent on wars and the like, but so many are hungry. We live in a very backwards world where violence and war take priority over the hungry and suffering people of the world!

Hi Pose123, So sad to hear that one billion people in the world are hungry now a days. But in my own oppinion may be people are hungry because they don't find a way to earn money. They did not force their selves to seek a job.No one is to be blame, except the people. They feels hungry Because they are not striving for their needs especially foods.Good day

Hi Hazelrose, Thank you for responding but we disagree on this. Most of the hungry have no means of getting a job and need help to get started. We can spend billions on war but can't eradicate hunger! I don't believe it, it is the way governments are wasting money. It is not a handout that people need but a hand up. There will always be a few that can't work and we have to help those, but the majority would gladly work if given a chance. Greed is one of the main reasons and many leaders only care about power. Blessings.

i think it's true in some countries, while in some countries, most of the people there are poor, they have no conditions to create the wealth, who are to blame?
all the countries should export their advanced techniques to them, and help them to built their village, instead of fighting here and there.

Hello pose,
I think I get what you mean. There are a lot of budget to spend for the advancement in technology or for discovering new things, and yet a budget for food for billion of people can not be given. Where do we base the progress of a country or the world, is it based on the technology or the people in that country, whether they are rich or poor. Maybe if the government will prioritize giving food to the people or better jobs for those people who don't have job then, less people will be hungry and therefore more success and progress in the country and the world.
take care

Hi Red, Thank you for commenting. It is not giving food to people, maybe in the beginning and to those unable to work, but people need to be helped so that more can work and earn for themselves. If all who are well enough to work had jobs and were paying taxes, much more could be done and people would be happier. We would of course need to support those who are not well enough to work. Blessings.

That is definitely true. just in our country, millions of people are suffering from
hunger. We just suffered from two major typhoons and many has lost their life and
lost their properties. The saddest thing in our country is that the government is
not doing anything to fix the problem. Most of the government officials are
corrupt. If you would be in our place, you will see a lot of street children begging
for food and money. We can really experience the recession right now. A lot of
people also lost their job. Actually, I just lost my job last week and I'm glad
that i'm back with a new job now. Our basic salary is not enough to cover all our
expenses so we really need to have part time job now.

Hi rberon, Thank you for responding and I know that things are very difficult right now. There is so much corruption in government almost everywhere and most only care about power and helping their friends. I don't believe that we can't eradicate world hunger, it is simply that we would rather spent billions on wars that are pointless except to kill the innocent, and many more billions to get to other planets. Let's take care of our own first. Blessings.

Hello dear Pose. I agree with you that despite our great achievement in science and technology, we still have a lot to do to help those in poverty, to help them get rid of the state of going hungry. I think that each government is supposed to pay more attention to its people with their basic living demands and standards. Only when all the people can live a happy life can they enjoy a peaceful and happy life. What is pleasant is that there are quite a few civil organizations that help those needy, but governments should do more to offer help and make out good policies to help their people.

The food is there, the problem is politics and power, humanity has not yet agreed that freedom from hunger is a basic right of all humans. Hunger is used to control people and governments. It is a very sad state of affairs in the world. Even in the USA that has so much there are hungry people, it is truly shameful.

Hi savypat, Thanks for your comment and I agree that the food is there and you're right it is truly shameful. Maybe it's time that we all realize that we are all citizens of planet earth and start taking care of our own before we go of looking for water on the moon. Greed and power are still alive and well, and few seem to care. Blessings.

Pose-
Currently my family must use food pantries to stay afloat. We're on a single income whilst I finish my master thesis. At first we struggled alone trying not to take "hand outs" as we were told they were. So many people online and offline kept repeating that if we couldn't make it ourself then we were unfit to have children and to be alive. But this last summer things were so desperate, WIC didn't go far enough because they cut back the amount you get saying it was because children were becoming Obese on milk and cheese, and we didn't qualify for food stamps. I had no milk in the house for three days and watched my babies only have water. I cried every day and night. Finally, I broke down and called a local pantry.
The intake woman, Goddess bless her, was so kind. She asked why we had not been coming in, so I told her. She almost cried and told me that there were many people in my exact situation who were using food pantries all across America, and that there was no shame in being helped. We had the most heart filled conversation that day.
We still struggle, and have loads of medical debt that are being judged currently but we're trying. And that is what I think those who scoff at people who need help really do not understand. They seem to think we're lazy, trying to live off others, and yet that is simply not the truth.
I am unsure myself why we have world hunger. Even here in the USA, who brags about being the best country, we can't seem to make sure everyone is fed simply because of greed. Perhaps when we start allowing compassion to rule us, instead of capitalism, we'll see a change.
Namaste dear friend,
Anora

Hi Anora, Thank you for your response and I hadn't realized that you were in so much difficulty. My wife and I are managing on social security but there are no extras. Although I realize that the global recession is very bad, I was shocked to hear that the number of people going hungry in the world had passed the one billion mark. It is sad to think of the huge gap between the very rich and the very poor. It also saddens me to see that despite the advances in technology, we have fallen so far behind in others ways. Technology meant to help us is really destroying us because we have forgotten how to live. We are all citizens of the earth we should take care of our own before spending billions on space exploration. The billions that are spent on war could be so much better spent on eliminating hunger. In many parts of the world, politicians are corrupt and only care for power and helping their friends. Sad to say there are still millions who just don't care as long as they have plenty. I feel that we must change and very soon if humanity is to survive. Blessings.

I know i may sound very idealistic but I really felt unfair when i realized that there are people getting sleep without any food from there stomach. I experienced it when i was so so I know how very awful it seems. I cant donate them anything but prayer. I just pray that god wont let them hungry all the time.

We are not progressing at all. Every person tries to protect their own interest that's why the rich tends to neglect the people living in poverty. We should be responsible for one another and also the people living in poverty should also help themselves.

Hi hexeduser, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Often the people living in poverty are not able to help themselves and need a hand up. I feel that the billions spent on war and space exploration could easily solve the problem. Lets solve our own problems first and check out space later. Blessings.

You are right to say that more and more people are going hungry despite the advances that man has achieve. Why?
Because it is foretold in the Bible that in the last days there will be hunger, earthquakes, wars and outbreak of diseases. This is because the so called leaders of our world are more interested in their own self agrandisement and not on how to bring about the welfare of the people. Some leaders may be trying hard to uplift the status of their countrymen but to no avail. Why?
Because the Bible says in Revelation that earth now is ruled by satan the devil. And as such, the devil inculcates wicked things in human's mind. These war, this rebellion by the people against their gov't, and this gov'ts that are corrupt- these are the works of the devil. But soon the devil and the wicked ones will be destroyed by God in His Day of Judgement and the only the meek ones who obeyed God's commandments and requirement will inherit life everlasting.
