Do you think it is safe to let your child be on the Internet?

I think it is not safe to let your child Rome the Internet freely. There are too many things to concider. Chat rooms for example are a prime example of the dangers a child can have over the Internet. You have no idea who your child is talking to. They could be a petafile or some weirdo. You can send pictures over the internet and if you have a web camera that can cause issues and open the doors to the wrong type of people. There are also inapproprate websites that are acessable on the Internet that child could stumble apon. The Internet is a whole new world out there full of suprises both good and bad. I would also suggest if you do let your child on the Internet to supervise or restrict certain sites so that your child will not be able to do anything risky. Children need to be supervised on the Internet.this is for their personal saftey.

yes again if you are involved in what your kids are doing and communicate with them about what they are doing then there shouldnt be any problems
there MUST be communication and guidelines

For me, internet is one good source of education, good source of information as well as entertainment. BUT the way a child access it, it is the point to be questioned. =) I don't think letting a child to access internet is one dangerous thing. Probably they might need it for improving their knowledge, or just simply doing refreshing by reading 'gossip-headlines'. I agree with you that children need to be supervised while on the internet. OR, because of nowaday's high technology, it is also possible to restrict the internet so they can't open some specific websites, or some website which contains the related restricted keywords.

I think that it is safe but certain precautions must be taken. For example you can set parental settings on the computer so that the child is unable to view certain types of webpages. There's a security configuration that you can set and it includes inputting certain key words that will be recognised and blocked if the child enters them in a search engine. Children are getting smarter and smarter though when it comes to computers these days! I think that grounding rules need to be established from the outset and obviously the child's online activities need to be constantly monitored. Andrew

Hi tuckersheri,thanks for your guidelines,and your views are exact.I agree with you,parents have to keep a bulls eye when their children are on internet.Right now i have got my six year old niece at home who is allowed to use computer only to work on painting.Anyways your points are to be considered in future when she grows up.

I think it is safe for children if you are with them and make sure they only visit sites that do not have mature content in it. I would not let them be on the internet without adult supervision though. That is not safe at all.

the family computer should be in a public place like the living room where children usage can be monitored. Some parents see a pedophile lurking behind every tree and behind every Internet site. It is just as ridiculous not to let them on the Internet in case something happens as it is not to let them outside in case something happens you just have to take the appropriate precautions without being paranoid.
Of course children need to be supervised on the Internet just as they need to be supervised when outside or engaged in activities generally.

The internet is a great tool for kids as well as adults. My five year old granddaughter plays games, some learning games, some just for fun on the internet.
But you're absolutely right they need to be carefully monitored. When my kids were kids and teenagers, the computer was always kept out in an open area where I could see what they were doing, I taught them what might get them in trouble, warned them I would snoop on what they were doing and when I caught them going to inappropriate sites I locked them out of the computer so they could only use it when I was home and could directly supervise.

hi friend you are true about the worry you had but it is not correct that you should avoid him from internet ..there is bad with that but along with bad there is good...i an give you a suggestion how to over come that problem..it can help you a little...place the system in the hall where you will be in the presence of our child .even if he have the intension to use of bad sites he cannot be opening or get edited
to them and also you should not behave like suspecting ...and never talk about such discussion with him..feel friendly with him that he can express you every thing he think and so you can guide him in a right way

I believe on that too. Children nowadays are very different compared to children before, one factor of this is Internet... Yes I guess evryone should be aware of this and won't let their children use internet without the adult suppervission.. Let us do campaign of making it reach to evry home that it is not safe for kids to be much expose to the Internet unsupervise.

I am still single,do not understand your feelings,but I agree with what you said this,the network is like a double-edged sword that can bring benefits,but also can bring disadvantages,but the monitor properly,then certainly more good than harm.

I think it depends on children's attitude.If the kids like studying and could refused the bad things,Internet is good for them.But if the kids hate studying and they only want to talk to others or play games,that's not good for them.Is that right?

I think it depends!you know the computer and internet is just one kind of tool,we have to let them to learn how to use this tool,there are so much knowledge from different field,even in the real life,there are much evil thing around them,they should learn to distinguish what the good or bad is,which is that we would do!
