I'm not too sure if this issue has been raised yet so bear with me. Ok, Ladies and Gentlemen of Mylot, i give to you one of the most disturbing, insensitive, nasty, vicious and demeaning piece of literature... the Jan Moir Article on Stephen Gately's death: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1220756/A-strange-lonely-troubling-death--.html#comments When the base of one's writing career soley rests upon the cruel deconstruction of a popular and loved identity we need to start questioning the morality of our press. What right does she have (besides those given by the newspaper) to project her moral prejudices so keenly and insenstively through her writing a mere week after his death? What right has she to do this at all? Any thoughts on the matter, feel free to comment Happy Mylotting x

hi I am really apalled even though I did not know this Stephen Gately at all, nobody should try to be judge and jury just because she is a journalist.she is just supposing and that is just so cruel to his parents and loved ones. why is she even thinking of writing like that? She does not have proof of what she is implying so why even imply it. shame on her, that is just bad journalism.

did you see the massive outcry on twitter & facebook etc on Friday? Even a majority of Daily Mail readers commenting on the article didn't agree with it. Marks and Spensers & even Nestle asked for their adverts to be pulled from the page, the Press Complaints Comission website crashed under the weight of complaints, Stephen Fry, Derren Brown, Charlie Brooker and even Alistair Campbell (amongst others) twittered, wrote and blogged about it. Meanwhile the Mail has tried to get away with sneaky edits to the article & it's title, only briefly removing adverts from the page before later bringing some of them back and the Editor (Paul Dacre - who just happens to be a key member of the PCC) afaik completely ignoring any responsibility for accepting & publishing the piece instead just letting Jan Moir issue a statement where she claims to be a victim of a mischievous organised internet campaign and can't see why they're accusing her article of having homophobic undertones. Charlie Brooker writing what's probably the article of his career on "why their is nothing human about Jan Moir's article" http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/oct/16/stephen-gately-jan-moir facebook group : http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=151083562155&ref=mf

latest is Suzanne Moore in The Mail On Sunday (practically a seperate paper, but still published on the main Mail site) has written an article that (naming no names) basically denounces the previous article as offensive and inaccurate. http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=12587&post=106693&uid=151083562155#post106693
